  1. I have been using the Romaro Ray 460HX Black head for a few months. Its the best JDM driver Ive ever hit, and I have tried most of them. Think a combination of a YAMAHA V201 trajectory, combined with a CRAZY 460/RYOMA PREMIA ease of use. I have had a CRAZY RD S in a 10 degree head, and its been an amazing setup. Great distance, with a slight controlled draw. i just put A crazy PROTO 513 S in this head , and I'm hitting dead straight 270-280 yard mid flight bullets. I think I have found the perfect combination of best head, and best shaft available for me.
  2. Has anyone hit the PRGR EGG 7 driver? This is one of the more extreme concepts Ive ever seen. One loft only 7 degrees, and one shaft.. the M43. Thoughts?
  3. Has anyone ordered/received the CRAZY 460 yet? How has the current situation in Japan affected shipping dates, not only with Crazy, but the other OEMS as well.
  4. I am getting interested in this club. I take it the test results on the chart were using the stock shaft setups?
  5. I have tried the YONEX 3I that I think is the same club. I don't think its as good as the NEXTAGE NANOV 430 and 460. The head feels hollow and not as solid.
  6. The Yamaha D201 SDriver I ordered from TSG took 3 weeks to clear customs in late DEC Jan. However the V201 came on time in4 days. Trouble is we just had over 30 inches of snow in DC and arctic air coming in for the next 2 weeks. I cant see a golf course open till late march if that unless we get a warm rain.
  7. THis Yamaha power spoon is looking better and tempting me every day. I am very happy with the EGG spoon line, but the wow factor and upside of the IMPRES X D201 S driver I have is in a class by itself. It is just longer and more explosive than any driver Ive hit in recent memory. If they can carry that wow factor to the spoon .... OH MY.
  8. You can vary the ball flight. Tee it mid to low and you will hit stinger shots. I got the best results teeing the ball higher than normal. I would hit a towering high shot that carried miles. Its hard to evaluate the run aspect because the turf in my home course is either semi frozen or mud depending on the amount of sunlight the hole gets. I got the SR flex as its winter and has been very cold and I havent swung much in 6 weeks. I am a smooth tempo swinger 100 to 105 mph. When the weather gets warmer there is no way this shaft will hold up for me. Im leaning to putting an MD 6 , diamana 63 blue S, or GD EV in there. ANy time I got aggressive I hit a quick draw. IM thinking that the V201 460 would be a better in season fit for me, but Im very excited about the upside of this club. This is the 1st driver in years that I get a significant increase in distance when I PURE IT. Ive hit 4 career drives in the 1st 36 holes in Jan winter conditions.
  9. I finally received the Yamaha 2010 inpres X D201 Type S Driver. Over the holidays it took almost 3 weeks to clear US customs. Since we had a record snow in the DC area and are having the coldest winter in 25 years it has been difficult to get any golf in. Anyhow we had a break in the weather and I played in a winter PRO AM scramble yesterday after an extended range session on thursday. The specs are 10 degree type S with a stock ORBit shaft. The shaft is very light at 48 grams, but the torque is 4.7. I didnt get A shaft upgrade as it is winter and I wanted a baseline to work off. As we get into the real golf season I will try different shaft setups in this head. The type S club is engineered to go straight or fade, but the 4.7 torque in the stock shaft caused the club to turn over a bit more on a hard swing. When I made a smooth pass , The head and feel at impact was amazing. It was very lively and explosive off the face. I hit some very long tee shots with this club yesterday. The ball flight had a nice flat trajectory with good carry and a nice angle of descent. It was the most explosive feeling face off the driver Ive ever tried. I am really tempted to try the Yamaha Tour model v201 460 with the ROMBAX J setup. Bottom line... With the right setup A BIG UPSIDE.
  10. I just received my 15 and 22 degree EGG clubs last week. ONE WORD ... awesome. Ive been an equipment fanatic for several years, I have tried several of the Japanese drivers EPON, YONEX , XDrive in various setups. This was my 1st try at a FW. I am blown away at how well designed the EGG fw family is. These fws are point on accurate, and the easiest clubs to elevate from almost any lie, they set a new standard. I feel like Im dialing in with a short iron even at over 200 yards. I didn't even swap out the stock shafts yet. They remind of the EMB stock, feeling soft yet have more deceptive control then one would think. The 15 was so easy to elevate I will probably get a 13 degree in the near future to max out distance potential. The 22 degree though was the standout. I can use this club from 165 to 205 yards. It has become my favorite club, replacing 2 R9 TP hybrids. I am awaiting the new Yamaha driver and hope to get it soon.
  11. I posted this on Wrx a few weeks back, but if you didnt read it there, I have found a magic ball for the EMB. It is the TOP FLITE FREAK. Ive tried a lot of driver ball shaft combos, but as a sheer distance weapon Ive yet to see anything match the EMB freak combo. Less than $15 a dozen, trust me on this, hit on the correct launch angle on a good solid hit and MAGIC stuff will happen.
  12. I just got an an Adams Pro Gold with an OZIK ALTUS hybrid shaft. It is nothing short of amazing. Th ease of effort and control of this shaft sets a new bar. I hit the same club with the MIts JAVLN FX shaft and it was average, but the ALtus was incredible. I felt I could hit any shot needed, high, low fade draw.
  13. The 57s have been getting some buzz based that they are built off the W wedge design. They look very similar to the S58. Anyone who has hit both, are the 57s worth an upgrade?
  14. I use sub 60 gram or low 60 gram shafts at 46 inches on all of my drivers now. Im 54 years old and that setup allows me to be competitive length wise with all but the longest power hitters. Thats the longest club length I can still be consistant with. I have no trouble swinging 47 and 48 inch drivers in certain conditions but 46 is the magic length for me now.
  15. Now that the warm weather finally hit the DC area I played Weds thru sat and had for the 1st time a real chance to truly evaluate the new toys I acquired this winter in normal conditions. The standouts are the EPON AF 101 with the GD MD 6, and the Callaway Legacy with the Speed Axis 55. As and all around performer the AF101 is a standout with the MD 6. I can work the ball both ways and really have to make a bad pass to hit anything off target. The Legacy is more one dimensional. With the 24 gram weight in the heel you will hit one shot , a High draw. Now I have a very fast release at impact and you would think I would fight the snap hooks with the Legacy. Not so. I use the weight to my advantage as leverage and I play my normal draw and BOMB IT. The Legacy I have is 46 inches. I was tempted to Put an XCON 5 in the legacy but have learned to swing the 55 shaft similar to the EMB , very smooth. I hit some record drives last sat with the Legacy. I also have an EMB and AF101 with stock shaft setups. These clubs work better for me in cooler offseason golf. I am playing in a big event in May and the high draw of the Legacy is perfect for that course. Spring is here.
  16. Yep its awesome with a capitol A. Put the MD 6 shafted 10.5 square AF101 In play today. The MD 6 shaft is so smooth, yet very tight. I felt when swinging it, like is was loading in uniform working in one piece. I got a great mid flat trajectory that carried a ton, lower than the machline 5350 shafted AF101. Both setups will come in to play this year. I can see the Machline AF101 in use during the cooler months and the MD 6 AF101 in prime golfing season. Another shaft I would recommend to those who like the stock EMB shaft. A Bassara UL 53. That is a smooth shaft that really loads, and sets up a high carry.
  17. I would agree. The AF 101 has a bigger upside, better feeling, longer. Im actually going to have a 2 driver setup of the AF 101, and EMB when I have to keep it in play and my timing is a bit off.
  18. Okay, I have last years TECHNITY, EMB, CALLAWAY LEGACY, and received the new EPON AF101 this week. I went with a square face angle 10.5 and the Machline 5350 stiff at 46 inches. Im going to say this straight out. This is the best driver Ive ever hit in my life. It retains the same smooth trampoline off the face as the Technity, but the ball speed is incredible. The trajectory is also stronger than the Technity, and has a nice shallow angle of descent. I got the perfect ballflight for me. A nice flat penetrating draw that carried a ton, and rolled out even on swamp grass after landing. The Machline shaft was a pleasant surprise. Very smooth and a cross between the Diamana red and blue 63 with a strong ballflight. This club is almost as forgiving as the EMB and L4V, but by far its the most forgiving on less than perfect hits for distance. My worse miss has been a slightly over draw into the left rough. 2 rounds in I havent hit anything close to a bad tee shot. I dont think Ive ever had more confidence in a driver that gives me the best combination of distance and control. Im playing in mid 40 degree temps and hitting summer distance. I hit maybe the longest drive in a crosswind I ever hit yesterday , 284 with the skycaddie. Today the magic continued, and I cant wait until real spring temps come our way as this club will provide a rush that a club junkie like me dreams about.
  19. 2 EMBS in hand and an AF101 on the way.
  20. I like the feel of a heavier club also and put 3 strips of lead tape on the back of the EMB. It helped me with the overall feel. Its hard to put into words but the stock shaft has really good feedback thru the swing and because the overall static weight of the club is lighter it has given me a good swing speed boost. It reminds of of an old Cubic balance 48 inch driver I used 6 years ago that was very light, and gave me the same sense of leverage. The EMB head though of course is in a whole different league as far as performance and quality goes.
  21. I got a 2nd EMB this time a 12 degree with a stiff stock Tour AD shaft, my original is a 10.5 with a stiff regular. I didnt see much difference going up one flex, you still have to swing smooth with this shaft, but the 12 degree head really got the launch angle much higher from a flat mid trajectory to a flat high tour trajectory. It was 71 degrees and very breezy tuesday. My 1st shot (with a big wind at my back measured at 292 yards with the skycaddie). It felt so good playing in 70 degree temps after playing all winter in mid 30 to mid 40 temps. The distance factor was finally not hampered by cold weather. The high winds we had the previous 2 days also helped dry out the winter swamp fairway conditions. The shot that amazed me the most was last tuesday there was a 15 mph left to right crosswind . I played to the left side of the fairway and hit a towering high shot that didnt move 1 foot off line. (the EMB low spin is a great wind asset). It was 262 yards to carry the hill and I was 15 yards over that hill in a tough crosswind. Given the good results I had, after the round I went to the range and set up my swing speed monitor. I have found that my swingspeed has jumped about 7 mph with the EMB. I range 106 to 111 with a peak of 113. Other 46 inch setups I range 99 to 105, and really have to push it to get near 110. This club is so easy to swing that I feel I get great leverage on the downswing and the overall light weight of the club yet with good head feel and balance really motors through the hitting area. Im very happy with both clubs and might use a 2 driver setup based on the conditions.
  22. Anyone try the new Callaway Legacy driver. I know the EMB is the hit choice, yep I have one but am curious. I have a Hyper ERC and that club was really long in calm or downwind conditions.
  23. I just picked up a Yonex Nanospeed I 10.5 S. Its by far the best feeling and sounding composite top driver Ive ever hit. Very easy to swing. The shaft is on the weak side and works best with a smooth pass. Try to nuke it and it will balloon. The face is on the shallow side a bit deeper than the EMB. If they can tighten up the shaft issues this club has big time potential.
  24. You have to tee the EMB low and address it slightly towards the toe to max it out. Monday it was a balmy 74 degrees and after nearly 2 months of mid 30s and 40 something temps I was very anxious to see what the EMB could do in normal temps. It didnt disapoint. I nuked this thing. The highlight for me was driving over a short 310 yard par 4. It was a dogleg right around the lake and required a 251 yard carry to dry land over the lake and 260 to the center of the green. I put it on the back fringe. Its been a long time since I nuked a shot like that , and I just swung smooth hit it towards the toe and it was GONE. I had the course to myself and partner so I tried testing several balls against the EMB. The Taylor Burner TP ball carries a long way with the EMB, and the Cally HX tour has the best combo of Carry roll, and wind performance.
  25. I had a Yonex graphite headed driver many years ago. That was before the Big bertha. It was the biggest head at the time. Im starting to get interested in the Nanospeed I driver. It WAS VOTED BEST CLUB OF THE EURO TRADE SHOW (the counterpart to the pga trade at orlando). I believe the Japanese version is the Nano V. A UK mag was high on this driver.
