  1. Are you still looking for some TR 900 MD's? I'd entertain an offer-- new this year; M-43's. Awesome forged irons but considering irons which are a bit less demanding. PM
  2. Congrats! Please do let us know what you think. I like these clubs more and more. I'm still wondering about the lie angle adjustments and hate to fork another 50 bucks over for a third opinion-- but it is critical. You may find yourself washing and polishing them often. d
  3. Hello m, Sorry about the delay. I believe that the 900MD's are considerably less forgiving than the Z101's. I have, however, not played with the Tourstages, and am estimating by the specs and my experience with the PRGR's. The shafts at M-43 are geared for a driver swing speed of 96 miles per hour (43 meters per second). I find them to be light and noticeably more flexible than DGS300's. Results, however, do not seem to be as dramatic in difference as does feel. They are beautiful irons, though tempermental. I would advise a ten or lower handicap for this set. d
  4. Hi folks, Some new observations and insight to the PRGR TR 900MD irons. 4-PW; M-43 shafts. First and foremost: these irons are not for the faint of heart, i.e., if you are looking for forgiveness look elsewhere. The 900MD's are demanding and require a good swing and solid, ball compressing impact, without which will result in a variety of unpleasant sprays, both left and right, high and low. That being said, conversely, if you do put a good swing on it the result is no less than thrilling. I'm talking about towering 4 irons which stop on a dime. The ball flight throughout the set is high and boring. I'm fascinated by the trajectory-- while similar to my set of MP-14's, there is a pronounced "hang time," so to speak. Feel is pronounced, as well. While feeling less mass at impact than the 14's, there is a distinct "snap" at contact. It has taken a few weeks for me to adjust, but I have come to really enjoy the feel of these clubs at impact. The sole and grind is also interesting. Once again, these irons are demanding and will dig. However, there is some leeway if you are a touch fat. I did notice that they cut through the rough like butter-- and I would like to emphasize this-- I'm not exaggerating here. The shafts, as Chris observed in a previous post, are indeed smooth. I'm trying to adjust from DGS300's, and they feel incredibly light to me. Ironically, when I have my friends swing them without exception they all respond that the clubs feel heavy. I think the 14's are stiffer and more solid feeling, while the 900's are smoother and snappier. The face is considerably larger than the 14's, and the lofts are stiffer by a full club (the 14's are nearly 10 years old and this is expected). The sweetspot is obviously larger, but if you are coming from blades this will probably not be an issue. Workability? The 900's are workable, left and right, but I am having trouble with punching low, and hitting knock downs. I believe this will require more time and practice for me largely due to the size of the clubface (larger). Chipping is also an adjustment due to the lofts being 2-4 degrees stiffer (MP-14 PW: 50* / 900MD PW: 47*). All in all I am committed to these clubs and am having a lot of fun adjusting to them. A final note: Quality is obvious and stands out. The "swing feel," finish, and attention to detail is notable and satisfying. I am looking forward to the rest of the season. Please respond or PM me if you like regarding specific questions, or pix, etc. d
  5. I like super shiny chrome =). Clean on the back; clean lines-- flowing aesthetics.
  6. Thanks for the information-- that is exactly what I wanted to know! I never swing at full clip with the irons (3/4). I would say that I'm only just over the 43 MPS with the driver. This week has been too busy for me to actually get out onto the course. But I promise to give more feedback in the coming weeks. Post note: When I had them bent I once again perused the shelves of irons. I have no doubt that the club heads of the PRGRs are ideal in shape and size compared to all the other major US domestics (for me). They appear at address to be small with a very thin topline-- but in actuality are larger and sweeter (think spot). In short-- they're perfect.
  7. Does that mean that if I swing around 43m/s with my driver I'm in the range with the m-43 iron shafts?
  8. Ahh-- I wasn't sure about that but had assumed the M-43 may have been an indicator of 43 meters per second ss. I believe the kick points are the same for the 43 and the 46-- high. Anyone have any knowledge on this?
  9. These irons are beautiful-- just as sweet looking as in the pix. They have the odd quality of being larger on the clubface surface without appearing larger at all. I am getting mine back tomorrow from the shop where I had a fitting done on each and every iron. Peculiar there too; I'm flat 1* on 4-8, and neutral on 9 and PW. Go figure. Anyway, they feel lighter than the MP-14's yet very soft. The Mizzys feel equally soft, yet more solid at impact. Not better or worse, just different. This could also be the shafts, of course (M-43). BTW I did the conversion on MPS v. MPH on swing speed and 43 MPS is roughly 96 MPH. I don't swing my irons that fast so I'm guessing I have the right shaft. dcfas
  10. Yowza, g-- eye popping. If form follows function you should be shooting scratch in no time
  11. Thanks, They are super soft! Regarding comparison to the Mizzys, it's hard to explain, but I think there seems to be less mass at impact.
  12. I have a choice of fitters, but am always a bit worried about workmanship. I'm going to be very assertive and specific this time. I want the specs checked and written down before hand. I need to be fitted for the lower, then the mid, and finally the high irons-- all regarding lie angle. There is a new Golf Galaxy nearby that has a nice workshop. You can actually sit at a bar-like bench and watch them work on your clubs. I'll post further comments after the lie angle adjustments. d
  13. Forgot a size comparison-- here it is (4 irons).
  14. I've just come back from the range with the new PRGR TR 900MD irons, M43 shafts, standard LLL. First of all they were here on Thursday, after being ordered the Sunday of Memorial day weekend-- from Cali to NY basically in two days (Tue-Thu). That is impressive-- Thanks TSG Staff! First impressions: The clubs are as gorgeous as they look in the pix. They are mid sized for me, coming from the MP-14's. The 43 shafts are much less stiff than the DGS300's. Though I did not see a significant difference in flight, I did feel a difference. I think a are a bit too light for me and I might go for a shaft with more swing weight. Notice in the pix there is an interesting leading edge "grind," if you will; fat shots still fly. Thins are better as well, and don't sting. Trajectory is remarkably similar to my MP's-- sky scraping, though boring. I like this trajectory-- it gives me confidence that the ball will stop and looks impressive up there in the clouds =). I need to get them fitted, at least 2* flatter. I haven't played with them on the course, yet, so do not know how the spin is in stopping power. Bending the ball left and right is no problem-- I did have to adjust to deloft for punch shots. Overall, I am very satisfied and pleased. These clubs are so much nicer, as well as more unique, than any other clubs around, it's cool to have them in my bag. I think after some adjustments they will be more forgiving than the MP's, nearly as workable, and nearly as solid feeling. That butter feeling is present, it's just a tad lighter, in the hands. Hope the pix load ok-- enjoy! d
  15. Thanks-- I am looking forward to it. I should have fun uploading all the pix :o I plan on reviewing all shots: punch, bending, high, low, chipping; as well as feel, leading edge, sweet spot, divot, and anything else I can think of. I just hope the swing weight is not too light-- I like some heft at the bottom of my swing. Maybe I'll post the Mizzy's for comparison.
