  1. I think this statement is about as close to my philosophy of blades as I ever read. Being in India now, where I live a pretty spartan existence, I have a lot of time to consider a next set of iron. There are SO MANY REALLY GOOD JDM options to choose from. Today, the wind blew in from the east, so I was thinking Buchi blades, to mate with vs200. This thread is a hoot. And Stew's commentary, especially the women metaphor, should be in the JDM Hall of Fame.
  2. Best story: how we convince our wives that our golf equipment buying is sane and rational.
  3. Contest - 1) Favorite club and why (not just why JDM, but your fav current club in your bag now so that people review clubs, increase community knowledge) 2) Why you are into quality golf equipment - eg, plenty of people with money don't buy JDM. But we do. Why? A look into what makes this love tick? 3) How you would rationalize free golf clubs into an excuse to buy more JDM golf clubs?
  4. All of this makes me curious as to where each brand is forged...
  5. Yeah, the 100 Black is what I am thinking about and your report made me even more convinced. Thx. It's interesting to me, how blades have evolved. I have now seen a lot of designs that are much more playable than, say, my old Staffs or Ram Tour Grinds. I am not surprised to hear the Crazy MB's are forgiving. I have a set of Macgregor vfoils, launched around 2000. I don't know if they were the people that shifted things with MB design, but this club is not hard to hit at all, even with a thin sole and pretty thin top line. I had a set of Miura CB (2007) that were a lot harder to play. The A-grinds will be a little more demanding than the Macs. I think a LOT of it is your comfort zone - and how consistent your swing it.
  6. I was about to buy Miura small blades but had never hit them, even in LA where several retailers for the brand are located. Then RLL graciously let me hit his Agrind R1's and, well, that did it for me. I knew what the head was and how I played it. The only question is copper vs soft black refinished heads. I will say this about JDM and shot in the dark. The last new club I bought was jbeam Blackout. With shaft, $1K shot in the dark. Chris and I talked about it over a few emails - specs, etc. This was now 2+ years ago. I have not looked back on drivers. I get everything out of it my swing can get. 2 years with a driver is a record for me. I am hoping and betting in 2 years, I will still be playing these. That would be great. I'd like to wear a set of irons out (for once!) Lucifers, how do you like that shaft? I am thinking 100g stiff, soft stepped a little.
  7. I am thinking about same finish with same shaft. That looks great!
  8. I am thinking about putting MCI Blacks in some new clubs. Anyone playing these? How is this graduated weight/swing weight designworking for you?
  9. Hi - Did you sell your A grind MB's? I imagine so, but maybe not.

    Are they the R1's?

    Thx,

    Chuck

  10. Chris (or anyone who has insight) what's the difference in the r1 vs cmb blades/cb's? How would meshing R1 blades which are a little smaller work with cmb cb's? Now that Richard has awakened me to these he's right, these make a lot of sense.
  11. Richard, thanks. I had sort of lost sight of these, but looked again after your post. Yep, these are now strong contenders. I also like the price!
  12. Guys I know this has been beaten to death but after searching the archives I still would appreciate your opinions. I was totally happy with my Buchi vs200's. Then I lost the wedge (Aarrgggh) and started playing my Macgregor vfoils blades. Which I once again loved and started thinking about new blades. For the life of me I don't know why. Every time I play these Macs I love them. But you know how it is. But which ones and why? Here's what matters to me. Pretty thin sole and top line with some front edge relief on the sole. Not too boxy which means the 8 iron should look more like a triangle than a rectangle - narrow near the hosel. And not real rounded at the toe. I like some angle there. The ability to mesh some moderate cavity backs for the 4-5-6 irons if my confidence drops. Great solid feel on good impact - not too soft and good feedback on where you hit them. I don't need a big blade designed for people afraid of blades. Quality of course. Staying power requires that I like seeing them in the bag! Right now the leaders in the clubhouse are small Miuras but many of you guys have played them all. What I have read about these are some of the best feeling ever but some complain about size making them vulnerable to the shank. Plus you can add the cb's to them. Miuraisms while silly expensive are not inconceivable. But I'd rather not plunk down $3+k Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  13. Yeah, I really like the sound/feel of my blackout. Wanna talk loud - Nakashima 460. That thing was loud loud.
  14. If I'm going to spend a $1200 on a shaft, I'm going to spend $600 more for the detailed fitting (if I converted yen to dollars right) since I already fly to Asian 3-4 times a year. My only hesitancy is I hit my current rig about as good as my swing can deliver so I think the marginal benefit would be pretty small. But who doesn't want a custom built shaft?!
  15. My understanding is that if you go to their shop they gather comprehensive real time swing/ball flight data and build from actual performance data - but is more expensive than just completing the form.
  16. I had a guy I sold some clubs to on golfwrx send me a message to 'warn' me about tsg and this whole thing. I guess the other JDM site is blowing up about it. I stopped going there a while ago. I much prefer the tone here. So it can't be good for the biz but I am unconcerned as a consumer about Chris, tsg or 7d. One of these days I am going to stop in Tokyo and get measured for a shaft.
  17. Chris, I did not enter this contest. I think your gesture to expand the winners is exactly why tsg has gained a loyal following. We come here to interact with friends including you about fine golf clubs. It is a pleasure to visit here and be a tiny part of the community. Kudos to you.
  18. Thx RLL. Interesting read. Shafts are the hardest element to sift through intelligently. Nice to see a glimpse from the insider's perspective.
  19. Thx Chris. Think putting 7 Dreamers into blackout rather than new head makes sense as next move.
  20. Well that is certainly a positive writeup. I am totally content with my Blackout but damn that's interesting. Chris, how does this compare with Blackout? For modest ss (90-93) is there any substantive difference?
  21. Oh man these would look good in my bag.... But I really like my current wedges and I am on a 'if it ain't broke...' theme. But, wow, nice.
