  2. stayed at the Carmel Valley Ranch a few years back and played as many courses as I could find in the Monterey area. Poppy Hills had just undergone some work and the greens were way too firm...but other than that is was OK. Spyglass was probably my favorite. Pebble was good, although not in the same condition then as it was for this weekend's tournament. Bit pricey overall, but you have to play it once. The Pete Dye design at the Ranch was good fun to play.
  3. totally agree re BERGER -- he is a pain in the neck with that putting routine. In fact he is way too deliberate with all of his shot preparations. He played with Cantlay who is also a notoriously slow player....would have been torture following that group!!
  4. the new Modart iron is a shape I really like - and finally it has appeared on this site. PRGR generally make good irons. Think it's a shame we are seeing so many manufacturers going to strong lofts, but that's what marketing is telling them to do.
  5. definitely has my interest -- let's see if we get the usual avalanche of information from this site.
  6. how's that feedback going from the shop ???
  7. try to use anything FLAT -- as opposed to those Casino Chip markers.... which look good, but are not too practical.
  8. reports saying Adam Scott will put one of the Korean auto-flex shafts into play at Torrey Pines this week. Has tested it in his driver and found good results.
  9. purely from a selfish point of view -- I'd like to see them offer the JDM as something unique - and charge accordingly. Premium materials for a start - and copper or black finishes for the irons. You can buy the USA offerings and pay for upgraded shafts and you can pretty much get lofts and lies adjusted in custom orders. So give me something that will make my golf buddies incredibly jealous !!
  10. Callaway are out with new Epic woods (and new Apex irons) and you can see them on this website advertised as the JDM version. That needs explaining because apart from possibly better shaft options, I see zero difference between these and the range offered everywhere else.
  11. long overdue .... I am a big fan of the Japanese quality. I'm sure everyone on this forum is also. But I have to buy "blind" because I don't live in Japan and it's often a lot of money to pay out in the hope something is as good as it looks. Consequently I have a room full of really expensive golf equipment that has hardly been used - because you can only use 1 set at a time. I try to put the different clubs into play just so they don't feel left out... but that doesn't help me break par. At last count I had over 200 clubs and I'm just too lazy to even bother offering the "not required" for sale. And I know I'll keep buying. Where will this end !! What I am noticing these days is the mainstream gear (Callaway, Taylor Made etc) are coming up with a lot of new tech and on that front seem to be outpacing the JDM. But when it comes to quality of materials, hard to go past the longtime leader - JDM.
  12. been available for 3 months and still nothing on Tourspec ? Maybe they no longer live this brand ?
  13. yes there are a lot of new clubs I'm keen to look into -- and buy. I buy new gear every year but am getting reluctant to spend thousands on items that LOOK GOOD but don't actually work for me. That of course is purely my fault. I'm an impulsive buyer of quality golf equipment. But now I have a garage full of expensive Japanese golf gear. And I cannot find any website where someone talks about and tests the new stuff - on camera. An example is I bought the Ryoma irons a couple of years back - love Ryoma in general but was not impressed with the irons. Now I'm interested in buying maybe the Modart or the Baldo forged irons .... but have no idea other than photos about what they might do for me. And of course shafts are so important for all equipment and we sure need to get more feedback on all of the options out there.
  14. These now appearing on the website and love the black satin finish - anyone played Baldo irons before ? I've tried a lot of brands but not this one.
  15. there is a new write-up about a Miura product in the Blog section and this is interesting and helpful - more of that please.
  16. Indeed.... This website could be so much better -- lots of great equipment coming to light but not nearly enough reviews and information. Most of the good folk checking this website do so because they buy and enjoy the quality Japanese equipment, but most do not live in Japan and that makes it almost impossible to test anything before buying ..... and that is not normally a good plan when spending the levels of money this premium equipment costs. Often silly and simple Google translations that we see here are way short of the mark when it comes to knowing enough about the new releases.
  17. you might be better off checking the Ryoma website to get any news first.
  18. bit of a shame because the Japanese products are generally the best in the business and it would be a big help to potential buyers to get a lot more information instead of some ridiculous Google translation. If anyone finds a youtube channel that does reviews on the Japanese gear please post it.... the few of us still here might enjoy checking it out. I've bought so many clubs sight unseen from Japan and it's not a smart move. Of course you simply cannot get to test most of it unless you live in Japan.
  19. I have played a lot of irons in my time but never put my hands on a MODART model. Anyone out there had experience with them??
  20. We're not getting overwhelmed with responses are we.....
  21. very few people play 4 irons any more - hybrids are easier to handle for most. The PXG SGI version is a very good option in you insist on irons.
  22. can someone in Japan who has access to Modart check to see if these new irons will be offered in their BLACK --- as was the case with CBC model.
