  1. I just finally got around to installing two UT-95 (x) shafts (I bought from TSG a long time ago) in a pair of 17 degree and 19 degree PRGR 040i (#2, #3) hybrid heads (best ever imho). The #2 goes further and straighter than my 3 wood and the #3 goes as far (but higher) than the #2 did with a rifle 6.5 shaft in it. No ballooning, great weight and feel. Highly recommended for those who like heavier shafts. I'll try and post some pics of the new bag in WITB section soon. Cheers
  2. Yururis get my vote, very neat shape. I could stand over that topline for sure!
  3. Which JDM fairway woods have nice heavy heads? I like heavier swingweights in my woods (~D3 in driver, D4 in FW) and I find a lot of the japanese offerings need a lot of extra weighting to achieve this. I think the g-field heads are heavy, but what about tourstage, epon etc? Also, I have a PRGR TRX type 405 composite headed 3 wood and quite like the forgiveness and trajectory, but the head is a bit light. It actually has two screw-in wt ports (heel and toe) but it looks like you need a special 3-pronged tool to access them. Where would I find such a tool? I tend to hit this thing left so I'd like to shove some wt in the toe port if possible.... thanks in advance!
  4. Chris, you know I'd be happy to make up a nanocomposite for you in the lab here in Brisbane, but it will be well and truly cured by the time it gets to you!. I have a student coming from UCSB for a few months to work in Australia from late July, so I'll see if they know who could help in your local area. You need to find another golfing academic with all the gadgetry!
  5. Less time for golf these days with 2 great young kids, a demanding job, etc. But still love the game as I did when I first took it up 28 years ago, so finding or building sticks that I really enjoy hitting fills the gap! Nothing wrong with that I reckon, and when I do get a chance to play I enjoy it more than ever. Have been stuck on a 5 handicap for 15 years or so, but who cares!!! More recently, work has become more interesting and have developed some new urethane polymers which may be useful for softer, more durable golf ball covers, condoms, athletic shoe soles, etc. If I can meld work with golf, even better....
  6. I think if most of us did the stats on where we could improve with respect to the pros it would be: 1. driving accuracy 2. getting it up and down from within 110 yards very regularly. So this next 12 months I am going with 3 wedges, a higher lofted driver (yet to happen), 2 hybrids, no 3 wood, and a sh*tload of practice from 110 yards in. I have been stuck on a 5 handicap for maaaaaany years and it's time to set some goals. Plus it gives me an excuse to buy some new toys......
  7. My strength is short game and I think 3 wedges gives more options to get it up and down (have just gone back to 3 after playing with 2 for a couple of years). Also found a big gap btw PW and 54. I will probably go to graphite shafts in 17* and 19* hybrids and put the 3w on the sideline (unless playing a very long course).
  8. More of a driving iron, but an oldie and a goodie - PRGR040i. Minimal offset, huge sweetspot. I'm still looking for a #3/19degree if anyone has one!
  9. Just got 52/56/60 Epon Technitys in satin. Surpassing my expectations in terms of feel and playability. Had mizuno and bridgetone wedges previously and these are better all-round.
  10. Congrats. Beatiful job. I like your backyard putting arena btw! With regard to how you described the differences and ease of "getting lower on the ball", are the lofts the same on your new putter and your premium zone?
  11. Thanks, still best looking driver around imho!
  12. Hello fellow Aussie/s, nice set! how do you find the T3 driver?. Based on your specs you are almost identical to me in fitted frequency etc. I have an older PRGRTR-X 340cc with Rombax shaft (pullout from another JPGA Aussie tour player) and just and can't beat it out of the bag! I had thought the T3 black might be the driver to do it... Cheers
  13. My bro and I each have 3 Epon wedges (52/56/60) on the way from Chris - he is going the copper model and I am going the Technity NiCr satins.....all built to our specs. I currently use Bridgestone j33 wedges and have only been mildly happy with their performance and feel. Will report on how the Epons compare, and also update WITB when they arrive as there have been a few changes to my bag since the trip to Japan and the Tokyo golf fair. Have not heard a bad thing about these wedges, so looking forward to breaking them in!
  14. The Srixon is a new ball wrt previous Srixon offerings. It has Z*UR written on the sight line. I have played both the new Srixon ball and the new TourStage 4 layer ball and they are both extremely good - excellent spin and control. I would rate the Srixon a slightly softer-feeling ball (definitely softer with the putter, and the nicest ball they have made, easily!), but the TourStage is a more durable ball and more clicky and firm to hit - but in a nice way. TourStage sems a bit longer, but I am currently not driving well enough to measure properly!! If you normally play the ProV1x then either of these balls will satisfy your needs....you might even get a couple of rounds out of the TourStage. I also tried the new top-shelf PRGR ball - it is nothing special at all! - scuffs up very easily.
  15. Thanks for going to the trouble of posting the wedge images - this helps decisions a lot!
  16. These are stunning now, but equally look like they will age gracefully with the care that I'm sure you will give them. I have a question for someonehere who has the copper Epon wedges - could you post images of an aged wedge with a bit of use please? I would like to see how they look before buying a set with this finish.....I think others might be interested in this too? Thanks for the great pics!
  17. I had been using the same shaft for ~2 yrs in an old 9* PRGR TR 340cc head (I like smaller heads). At 36 yrs of age and losing a bit of flexibility I was finding I had to work a bit hard towards the end of a round to get this shaft to kick. I recently reshafted to a Rombax 7V05x and find this a tad more playable all day, slightly higher trajectory, and just as tight. The I-65x is now in my PRGR 3 wood and it feels even better in that club than it did in the driver. I'm smashing the 3 wood - nice heavy feeling shaft the I-65. My swing speed is 110-115 Mph with the driver - (very) late hit and a bit steep into the ball. Hope this helps!
  18. I play the PRGR 040i model (2 iron) from a few years back. It is the model with minimal offset and is easy to hit, great feel, you can shape it easily. Very well-designed club imo. I'm looking for a 3i head if anyone has one!!!
  19. Have this 2i in the 17* version with 6.5 rifle shaft and it is my "fairway finder". Love it soo much I am now looking for a 3i/19* brother to share the bag with it (head must be in very good shape). This is the pro model with minimum offset. Have just purchased two Graphite Design UT-95 shafts from Chris to complete the set.
  20. These specs are perfect for my wife Georgina. Very sensible lofts on the irons. She is currently using quite old DCI golds with very weak lofts but high COGs. I feel she will be able to play real golf approaching the green with these irons. Email sent just now.
  21. I like the lower bounce on the Epon SW and am thinking about 52/56/60 set in these. I presume the copper ones won't wear as well as the Ni-Cr, but the lower bounce on these wedges should suit the firm turf here in Australia.
  22. Actually just came back from Japan and had no luck finding one of these in good enough condition (found 2 B grade heads only). Anyone have one lying around?
  23. Oh Boy Jacqui, I told you in Tokyo it was my wife's 40th Birthday coming up in a couple of weeks. I enjoy buying gear for her as much as myself (if not more). If the specs on all of the woods and irons/wedges are not in the pro shop, could you send them to me or post them please?. Same beatiful Epon attention to detail.....just sweet. Thanks for showing us! Darren
  24. Chris, can you still get the 380cc head? I really like driver heads this size! Great feedback on this thread btw. Cheers! DM
