Best looking from address is most important, I like a squarish look.

Also, smoothest/best feeling, stable shaft? I swing anywhere from 105-115 with driver at max, I like to really feel the clubhead especially with irons, although I do tend to take a hit at it more than I'd like to. I want something I can stick with for a while and really develop my game. Looking for consistency and feel!

Thanks for all opinions and comments. :tsg_smilie_surprise:

Hands down Epon type j loaded with ns 1150 tours been in the bag since start of the season have not hit anything better.

I also own Tourstage Viqs ,z101's(1150's) srixon I506's(B golds) nakky NP1's (5.5 tfr's) all excellent for out and out performance type j.

The head choice is a no brainer Epon j shafts Ns BG or Tfr all play well with this head and rave reveiws on concepts.IMO.

I'm sure following posts will be similar

good luck

If you are looking for a blade, the type j is not a true blade (despite Epon calling it their muscleback).......

good blades (based on my experience) include the MP 33 (difficult to get in new), xblade 2, fourteen Tb-1000, Mr 23 (slightly older, but a bit overrated by those who call it the best blade ever).....Miura blades (despite the welding stuff)....

the 1150s provide more zing... but I found the s400/x100/black gold also very appealing.... Increasingly, i am turning more towards the S400/black gold..

if you want blade like feel with cavity benefits...then the type J's could be the club..

IMO

There are a lot of excellent irons available.

You either need to be a millionaire so you can buy all the top clubs, or decide what it is that you want in an Iron... feel, forgiveness, looks, brand, etc.

Muira= excellent. at least two or three models

EPON = excellent

Mizuno = excellent - I played my custom set of MP60's today for the first time, I loved them.

Yururi = Excellent

Golds factory = Excellent

Tourstage = Excellent

XXIO = Excellent

The list goes on and on.

Next, the shaft....

It never ends... :tsg_smilie_surprise:

ALL of the top Japanese brands are excellent.

Decide what you want. Have the Irons custom built.. and you will be one happy camper. Don't look back, know that you are playing the very best Clubs in the world.

The custom build part... is what makes this site, all of these Irons, unbeatable.

I'll never be able to say enough about Chris and :tsg_smiley_crazy:

I'm not completely stuck on ONLY a blade, but want something akin to one if not a "real" blade.

What are your thoughts on Miura?

the miura blades and the cb 1006 are very fine irons indeed (i owned both, still have the blades)..... all the irons in my post above are good... (My only compliant with fourteen is the loft porgression. Its should be 4 degree seperation till atleast the 5 iron, if not the 4 iron...)

If you are ok with expanding outside a true blade... i will say the gd mbs are very good, the type J are reportdely what people who own them rave about ... the Cb 1006 is very good iron.....

type js are certainly the prettiest amonst the ones you mentioned. also seem like more and more are raving about it, not a true blade but you cannot go wrong with it.

How similar is the Cb1006 to the new 202 for U.S. market? How do they differ?

Most important to me is looks from topline, if it doesn't look amazing and just perfect and inspire confidence, I'm not going to play my best! Second to this is and VERY CLOSE second is feel.

Note: I'm not too much of a digger with irons, but I don't typically pick it perfectly clean either. I am somewhere in between there hitting descending on the ball but hitting it at about the bottom of my swing. I would say I err a tad more towards hitting down on it than on sweeping... but it is kind of a toss up.

The cb1006 irons have the thinnest top line of the cavity back Irons I have played. Looking down at them at address you could mistake them for a blade.

If I'm not mistaken the 202 is pretty much the cb1006 made and marketed for the US. Depending on the shaft they have an excellent feel.

I am always trying out different Irons.

But... When it comes right down to it, for me, nothing has yet to top the EPON J's with the black gold shafts for feel and consistency.

Are you looking for opinion of true blades or just good feeling irons? While the J (or 1006) is probably a great iron, is it really a blade?

I'll agree with you that the J's are not a true blade. "Players Cavity back" is what I would call them. But I find that MOST players do not have the game to play a true blade. IMO you don't buy a blade to develop your game, you need game first, then blades.

I think that if it came down to getting a blade I would probably choose the Tourstage.

jeff this is the best advice ive seen regarding to blade or not to blade! most justify getting blades so that it would develop their game. i admit i almost fell for it. but who am i fooling .....settled for the x's. :tsg_smilie_blackeye:

respectfully disagree with both. but it does depend upon the pain one is willing to take to improve the game...

I'm not stuck on having to have a "blade" for my next set of irons, but I put enough time in to justify playing them. I even play an old persimmon and sam snead 2 iron for fun sometimes... now if you want to talk about unforgiving there you go.

Whether it is a "BLADE" blade, or just a blade-like players cavity is not a huge deal to me, I just want the best looking iron from address and the best feeling, consistent shaft. The part of the game I enjoy the most is creative part; playing difficult iron shots, getting creative with the ball and hitting the shots that make you go WHAT is what I love about golf probably the most. Whether my handicap suffers a few strokes in the meantime while I become better, I don't really care all that much.

OK, I would be the undiplomatic one. Judjing from all your posts, I still cannot figure out whether you are a single digit player, mid or high handicapper. I love the look of a pure blades but for sure I know I cannot play them and score well due to age and skill. I play the game for fun and basically trying to lower my handicap (posting every round) and of course compete in friendly mataches ($$$) and club competitions. With game improvement clubs available nowadays, it is enabling us old folks to compete somewhat with youner and better players. I have beautiful crafted Honma persimmon woods too but I need the extra 40 yards from my Epon driver to stay close with the next guy and try to take his money. My brother started golf with blades w/steel shafts but thats what were available 40 years ago and became a single digit player. They are of course long replaced by cavity and graphite.

best looking iron..... you have to make the call yourself... there are enough pictures in the gallery to look them up. if you need pics of a specific iron... ask..

best feeling consistent shaft - feel is personal.... What shafts have you played so far and what was your experience.... all the leading shafts are consistent... it depends on your swing and what you are looking for...

so time do some homework, sir.

I haven't been able to play most recently due to a wrist injury... but if I am a middle to high single digit handicap... I would say my weakest area is driving of the ball. I am a decent ball striker and I am pretty confident controlling shots other than driver... if I hit fairways I would probably be scratch no problem whatsoever. Home course is 7100 and 131 slope... I was 1 over after 15 and hook the drive OB on 16 for a triple and bogeyed the next two... if I could drive the ball as well as I did then and get out of my own way I would be scratch tomorrow. :-(

I REALLY like the look of the x-forged, I like the look of my Pro Combo Tours, and don't like a very rounded toe on an iron/wedge... another example of a look I like is the Rac TP MB.

I want something at least somewhat similar to the PC Tours in relation to the leading edge and bounce, as these play very versatile and have worked well for me in all conditions.

Does the leading edge on the X-forged really play like a razor, as comments I have heard? I am thinking about Miura because of comments on their looks compared to other clubs and from what I have seen in pictures.
