My antique Philips turntable has played Charlie Parker with Strings for the very last time, and I'm still not ready to give up my vinyl, scratchy and hissy as it may be.

Has anybody bought a turntable lately, or am I the only geriatric on the board?

I actually built myself a turntable based on a Lenco chassis. Put about $1200 into it, including arm and cartridge, and then build a phono pre amp. Stunning sound. Nothing touches a good table, but it's work to play, to keep records clean, etc. More often that I like to admit, I plug in the iphone and listen to Pandora.

But there is a whole world of audiophiles and audiophile 'tables out there starting at modest prices and going up into 6 figures.

Have you bought a new deck NN? If not, what is your budget? I would go with a Clearaudio if you are looking for dry precision or a Linn LP 12 if you want a classic to be able to upgrade forever. Or, if you have serious dough to lay down, SME ?
