Experience with Lighter Shafts and Higher Swing Speeds?
TourSpecGolfer replied to K2_2's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Many of the lighter shafts have a much more lively tip section because that's what that type of player seeking lighter shafts desires, stronger kick for extra distance. More recently brands are producing lighter shafts for faster swing speeds but I usually suggest going up in flex or even two depending on your own swing stats, in your case at 48 m/s the double XX TRPX Air is what I would suggest. It's a popular shaft on the long drive circuit in Japan and available in a variety of flexes including XX and XXX but it's still only 55 at it's lightest and 60 in the stiffest flex. Some customers who have purchased the air claim 15-25+ yards increase in distance from the shaft alone, in this scenario it took tipping 3/4" but ideally starting at a stiffer flex would have been the way to go. Not many options exist as far as light weight X-XX shafts go. -
Hi Daris, I just merged both your topics together.

Yes but Eggs are supposed to be ugly while those SYD's didn't have to be.

TourSpecGolfer replied to 73montecarlo's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
I'm pretty sure there is no high COR FW. In black or gold they are the same just different finish. Underrated for sure, these are super easy to hit and higher MOI fairway woods. It's available now if you need one just email me [email protected] -
Aw crap, I'm sold! Gotta get's me a set now. Much respect to anyone who can play a blade and these back to back, I'm the same way.

Modart Drivers MA01S & MA01D
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Does anyone not like these drivers? Robbie? Mpbachman? IMO both the D and the S are amongst the best available today, the metallic crunch is light and pure, head for head I'm not sure if these are longer than the Maxima but with my 47" shaft it's distance is longer than the special tune maxima which is a shocker as nothing has gotten close. -

New Brand: Believer Golf Clubs Now Available @ TSG
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
These are growing on me big time! As Tae-san says soft and very forgiving with a setup that would make it appear not so forgiving. Fujimoto Gikoh knows how to make irons. While I can't say who else they produce the list is impressive. -
Are you really a single digit playing these? If so that's awesome! I've never hit them but they do not look like an iron that would feel soft as you describe, that's got me curious as I could use some extra distance in my iron game on my home course. what shaft and flex do you have in them?

Return of the TN-87 by Mizuno!
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Yup the AW was never part of the original set for TN, it was added when customers requested it in numbers, I'm not 100% sure but I believe TN had his own AW preference at the time mizuno produced the TN-87 for him. -
The new Type-R driver is no slouch, This and the Modart MA01S are my gamers in rotation. I did boot the Maxima Special Tune which is longer than both imo but not nearly as straight or good feeling. Stock shaft on the Type-R in stiff, Modart with a 47" xXx Touale in Stiff! The Type-R has a nice feel, sound, and is very forgiving, one thing is that it may be half a degree closed which I personally prefer. I have a guy who has the issue of snap hook who hit both my clubs and didn't find the RomaRo any more draw biased than his current gamer the SLDR 430 in neutral position.

Return of the TN-87 by Mizuno!
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
No difference except a single club has a different lie by 1* and also the AW that is entirely new. Outside of that it's the same design. People love these because of the shape and feel. -
Some JDM brands have adopted adapters but yes the Japanese are indeed purists, when I asked Endo why they don't use adapters the main concern was the weight and it's effect on design. So when a brand uses an adapter that is say 5-7 grams they can't just add that weight to the neck and expect performance to not change, so they need to adjust other areas of the head making it lighter. Lets say they do lie and face angle it just creates more variables and or weight that often go against design... I've spoken with major OEM designers and have been told adjustability also puts them into a corner from a design perspective and eventually they will have to radically change the design or get rid of the adapter. Not sure if I'm explaining it well but bottom line is there is a give and take, the Japanese also feel the adapter on the shaft changes the way a shaft tip plays, another thing they believe is that a shaft with a .350 tip will not perform like a tip at .335. FYI main reason .350 exists is for durability issues and from what I've heard "westerners abusing gear" i.e heavy dude puts his weight on a driver to tee up a ball..lol or hacker who makes divots with the driver, or anyone just tossing their bag into the trunk or not using a quality case during travel. I personally don't use adjustable drivers, I see how it's useful for those who require some wide open face angles etc.. but even on tour some of the PGA guys request versions of adjustable clubs with no adapters, like Tiger.

Return of the TN-87 by Mizuno!
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Of course we can work out a good price for our supporting members. One thing to note is Mizuno will make as many sets as ordered before July 31st 2014. The release date is Janurary 2015! No orders will be accepted after July 30th 2014 Japan time. -
Should logo side of shaft always face downward?
TourSpecGolfer replied to Calvin's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
There is no need, spine is graphic up or down, flow there is no need, pure does nothing for shafts made and designed well, the very low end shafts may benefit from these things because they are poorly made but In my opinion these do more harm than good to high end shafts. -
It would lose a lot of feel that's for sure. Like TRPX imo, if it's played below 45" it loses it's sensation, at 46" it feels as it should. Most shafts played shorter lose feel especially the softer butt end shafts.

Mizuno TN-87 ( Tommy Nakashima 1987 ) - Don't you love it when the classics make a return? And boy was this a classic, originally released in 1988 There are still set's of the original TN-87's floating around on the web in a variety of conditions. Finding a brand new set is next to impossible. So why are these so highly coveted? Tommy Nakashima was at one point the #1 player on the JPGA tour, but that's really not the reason why Mizuno blade purists love them. It's first and foremost the shape, then feel that make up its cult appeal. Mizuno used a copper under layer below the chrome mirror finish, copper is a double edged blade because while it does create a nice soft and dense impact it also causes slight imperfections in the finishing process. If anyone tells you, it's to hide pitted steel they have no clue. Ready for the brutal part? These are going to cost an arm and a leg, when released there are no options to choose from, you must buy as they Mizuno offers the set. 10pcs 3-PW + AW+SW for a whopping 4 grand! That's right 4 g's people! If it helps it comes with a bag tag with your name on it... There are some differences, the lie angle on the wedges have been tweaked ever so slightly also there is now a gap wedge AW that never existed before, because it was not around at the time of the original it does not have the stamping TN-87 on it, but is part of the set and only sold with this set. If you are interested in locking one of these beauties up, you must email asap. I'm willing to bet even at this price they will not last long. [email protected]

So UGLY yet so Good! S-Yard XV Forged Iron
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
I just removed the sticker, now it's blank in the cavity, will post pics. This iron is seriously fun to hit. -
Should logo side of shaft always face downward?
TourSpecGolfer replied to Calvin's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
depends on the shaft, do not pure any of the high end JDM shafts. -
There was a TSG mock up version of this iron presented to Kobayashi-san and SYD prior to production, obviously this was not it, there were no stickers or lines, no chrome it was brushed satin, the inner cavity presented looked clean and un cluttered, then this arrived... Visually this is a tragedy in my opinion, looks cheap and gaudy, these are stickers! I decided not to bring it in or market it as we have a good idea of what our customers want visually in an iron. With the XV driver and fairway wood, how could this thing be related? The demo iron sat in storage and the other day while I was getting organized I found it tucked away in a box. so what the hay, I gave it a rip on the range and was saddened, not because it didn't perform but rather how it looks compared to it's performance. It performs very very well. soft, stupid forgiving, long, just ugly :( Am I being harsh?
-
Yup I agree and outside of swing speed we have the head weight, club length, hosel depth etc. all impacting the performance of the shaft. I've tried normal S and hard stepped S and X in the I-10 and S in the I-9 hard stepped. Distance and feel is wonderful on this shaft, dispersion is still graphite like. For the more aggressive swinger often graphite shafts play a little loose in the tip section for the less aggressive tempo the club head squares at impact beautifully.
