nicu2001
Apologies if this is in the wrong section of the site but I figured this was the best place to post. I am trying to figure out the best length/setup for my irons and have had some difficulty. My current build is Epon 702s w/ MCI 100 shafts at the lengths listed on the Epon website. 5 Iron is 38.5 down to SW at 35.5. This seems to be about 1/2" more than standard? I am 5'10" and while I have gotten used to these lengths they still feel a little long. I am hesitant to cut them down though as that could be a very expensive experiment. I also have 19 and 22 degree Epon 901s w/ MCI 100 at lengths of 40 and 39.5 (also standard via epon) that I am trying to use as 3i and 4i replacements. They set does not really seem to flow as they are 1" longer than the first step to 702s. To summarize: 901 19 - 40 901 22 - 39.5 702 5 - 38.5 702 6 - 38 702 7 - 37.5 702 8 - 37 702 9 - 36.5 702 PW - 36 702 AW - 35.5 702 SW - 35.5 Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Thanks! Miuramaniac
Those aren't really long, especially for a lighter shaft like that. If you go shorter you will probably have to add some tip weights. Never a good idea IMO. What are the swing weights? If the SW's are comfortable, I'd try to adjust and see if they work for you after several rounds/range sessions. Shortening half an inch would be expensive and a hassle for probably not much if any difference. If you like to tinker, no big deal I guess. As far as the 901's, all these hybrids and driving irons are being made to be a little longer (a half inch at least) than their iron counterparts, which I don't really like. They're supposed to be long iron replacements, but with everybody's obsession with distance, they make them as long as they can get away with because people just want to it these things far. And whichever one they hit the farthest on the simulator, accuracy be damned, that's the on they'll buy. They think they'll be able to figure out how to hit it straighter once it's in their bag. WRONG! But I doubt my internet rant is gonna change anything. lol
nicu2001
Thanks for the input, it makes me feel better. Maybe its a little in my head. As for the 901, the 19/22 is 40"/39.5", maybe I should just reduce that to 39.5"/39" and the set would flow evenly in 1/2 increments. Would that matter or be a waste of time and money?
