1st post so please be gentle. Just found this site and think it's awesome. I recently had trouble with distance control with my 7 iron, went to a small golf shop in Orange County, CA and they spec out my irons and told me that the flex of my shafts were not all the same, they were inconsistent. Well to make a long story short I started looking around and swinging other clubs. I really liked the feel of the Miura blades and KZG blades (don't know the model number). That's the only two blades they had there.
Currently I play Mizuno MP 29 w/rifle tour flighted 6.0 shafts. The guy at the shop told me that some of the shafts are not consistent and the cost of getting a set of good new shafts start at $200 and goes up from there. Now I'm thinking about upgrading my current set and getting a set of Japanese club because he said I have Mizuno clubs made for the US market which has suspect quality control at best. He said I will never see hozel weights in JDM clubs like the ones in my MP 29's because they have much better quality control. Therefore I was thinking about replacing my set.
I prefer the blade look, a thin top line, small/medium sized head, and slight offset. I also like the forged feel, I think the MP 29 looks and feels great no complaints here they just don't make these clubs anymore. My question to everyone here is......what do people suggest I look at as replacement clubs? Miura, Fourteen, Scratch golf, Gold, PRGR, Tourstage, etc....... I'm open to suggestions, please include model number so I can search for pictures.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I get the feeling that most if not all high end JDM forged clubs are going to have a very similar feeling (soft and solid feeling) just like my Mizuno's, its just a matter of what head shape is the most pleasing to me.
Clubs: Mizuno MP 29, 1-SW
Swing Speed irons: 94
handicap: 9.8
P.S. Also if anyone knows where I can buy JDM clubs at a good price that would be helpful, I'm not made of money you know...haha. I do travel to Tokyo about once a year for business, planning to go in March/April '08 so I can buy them in Japan if that makes a difference?
thanks,
Mike
