Hey Guys
After a four year break from golf, and from tourspec (sorry chris) I am back on the horse and starting to play again. I am looking to spec up a brand new bag of tricks that incorporate feel, workability, an element of forgiveness and that will have manageable shafts until I get back into the swing of things. Since I last was on the board it seems that there are soo many new brands out, most of which I have never heard of - so some advice and assistance on club choices would be appreciated......
In general I am looking for;
- Square face driver, traditional look, solid feel yet forgiving - 44.75" and a light mid torque shaft to help with some draw
- 3 wood that is forgiving as this is my worst club in the bag. Previously I had a PRGR spoon which I loved and this combined forgiveness and feel
- Utility - 18* and again something easy to hit
- Irons - I am looking for blades with an awesome forging, top class feel and not too difficult to hit - I have no idea on shafts
- Wedges - something workable
- Golds Factory Putter
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hey guys
It has been a long time since I have been on the board - God Damm work! - I really have not been playing any golf for the last 3 years and have left by TSG hoing behind :( But it is good to see that many of the same old names are still posting.
I am really getting back into golf and I am looking to dump my current bag and upgrade to a new JDM setup. I have quite a lot of gear from a few years back like the Gauge Design Handmades, Epon 301s etc etc but what is new and rocking now?
I need Driver, 3 wood, rescue, irons and wedges. No need for a putter.
My handicap is still +1/ Scratch - and I have always played forged players clubs.....but would love to hear all recommendations.
Cheers

Plus 1, good to see you posting again champ!!
Could you do a mini review of the Roddio shaft in your driver. Personally I prefer heavier shafts.
PS Do you know the cpms of the Roddio shaft
Hey pal
The Roddio w8wa is a stiff flex with 256 cpm. It is a heavier shaft - 85.5g but I swear it is soooo well balanced so the weight is not as obvious.
The heavier shaft definitely helps me feel where the club is in the swing but most of all it is smooth, with lots of load and lots of kick.
Initial impressions are that it flies high, not too much spin as it seem to carry good distance through the wind and most of all very easy to work - for me it was so easy to hit a nice 5 yard draw......

I had the original jpx three wood from 2 years ago. It was my gamer up to very recently. This club lasted in my bag longer than any other club and It was top class. I have confidence that this new jpx will be of similar quality and be an absolute rocket.
I love the square look in the 3 woods, but i hate the site line - I find that really really off putting - aside from that it is a really funky design.

Chris - I know you said that had ordered one the same as mine - but it really is my new babies twin brother.
This looks sooo much better in hand, and believe me it rolls even better than it looks.
Golds are top end putters, that are beautifully crafted. The precision involved is flawless and the feel and enjoyment from the clubs far outweighs the costs involved....

I have both the EMB and the 460zr. I have not yet tried the new af101.
The 460zr and I am sure the 101 both will have a superior feel to the EMB. They may be easier to work and if you are a pure striker then will probably give you more satisfaction.
The EMB is absolutely awesome. It is so easy to draw , fade and hit straight. Also it is 20 yards further than the 460. The one downside to it is the sound, which is very LOUD. but to be honest I dont mind as long as I am down the middle.
Shaft wise I have gone for the roddios......I am using the Roddio w8wa which is very smooth, easy to load and unload, does not spin much and seems to be very consistent.

Hey Guys
I just got a few parcels in the post from chris aka Tourspecgolfer......and all I can say is wow.
Parcel 1
Golds Factory custom Private Stock 2. Satin Finish, Tungsten weights in the sole and on the face, Premium zone milled face, G circle on the sole and TOUR PROTO on the bumpers.
This thing rolls like a champ, it is certainly more impressive than any of the tour cammies I have and is far superior to the Gauge design putters I have become so used to.
Parcel 2
Epon EMB 10.5 degree, square face fitted with a roddio W8WA stiff flex - 44.75''
This is an animal. It was carrying about 15 past my 460zr, the ground is wet so there is no roll - will be fun to see what the distance difference is when the ground firms up!
One thing I did not like about the driver was the sound! - very LOUD - but the benefits far outweigh this small complaint
Parcel 3
Epon af301 fitted with nippon 1050 stiff
wow - soft, very forgiving, there is loads of kick outa the shafts and the spin is fantastic.
I found the accuracy to be fantastic, the spin rate to be very good as the wind did not really move the ball but the launch seem a bit high.
All in all I am super pleased with all of these purchases. .... I am taking pics tonight to whet your appetite

PS i have a set of tour issue 247s with axiv shafts in the house. ...what is the difference between the 247s that chris sells and the apparent tour issue models?
Also how do the plus forged compare to the 247s?
I am thinking of getting anther set - and cant decide between another set of 247s with different shafts or just trying the larger plus irons.

Thanks T
The general consensus is that I should go for the endo, I have tried all of the epons and although they feel fantastic they just dont suit me eye as well as other irons. I like the look of the Yamaha's as they have a slightly more square toe.
The only way to really sort my dilemma out is by buying the two sets that I like and comparing them.
I have just ordered the Vega 50th anniversary set and I am hoping that I can still order the set of Tour Yamaha's....as Bogeydog says - they rock!
Has anyone in here played the Vega anniversary set? opinions?
