I've played the CB-301, CB-1006, AF-301, AF-501. The Epon AF-301 is certainly the best looking, the feel is more of a click than the soft feel of the miura's. Didn't get them to perform that well until I put nippon 1150tour shafts in them, this made a huge difference to the feel and performance of them and for me outperform the miura's hands down. I would say the DG shaft is too heavy for this head as anywhere near US/European std length makes them feel extremely heavy and hard work, but the lighter nippons suit the heavier head perfectly, for me anyway. The AF-501 is the club I play my best golf with as they are so easy to hit and long irons are ridiculously easy to flight long and high (again with 1150's). So much so that most of my low single figure hcp customers are now playing the 501's with 1150's instead of the 301's. If only they had the same feel!
  2. The Epon X-wedge cu for me. Carry the 52 and 58, they aren't the highest spinning wedge in the world but you know they are going to one hop and 3-6 feet roll out consistantly. After one round felt like I've had them my whole golfing life.
  3. I've actually gone away from my Type J and CB-1006, I'm now playing the type S with nippon 1150tour S at 38" 5-iron. Ball flight and carry has increased 5-10 yards over the type J; the long irons are so easy to hit on a long high flight. Don't feel as solid to hit as the type J but it's still a very satisfying contact - I don't think I'll be using anything else this season. My clubhead speed is 110mph with driver, HCP 0.8
  4. I agree completely Blader, I put one in the Epon driver and it's even smoother than the Aviv to hit. Feels soft, but definately plays stiffer than previous Tour-AD's. Ball flight was more penetrating in the Epon than the axiv, distance about the same on calm days but I reckon the QT would edge it in the wind. I'm up there between 108-112 and don't think the X-flex would really suit, more than happy with the S, as you say, it goes where you hit it. All in all a very consistant performer, would rate it higher than the axiv for people wanting more penetrating ball-flight.
  5. I would have thought the 1150tour would have been closer to your desired shaft? - closer in weight to the S200 and a great feeling shaft that has got much better penetration than the 1050.
  6. What you don't seem to have considered is the head weight. The NC-1 were designed with nippon 950's in mind, when you put a 130g shaft in them they are going to perform very differently. The USA Bridgestones were designed with the Dynamic Gold, for the US market, that shaft is a lot closer in weight to a tour concept than a nippon 950. If you don't mind me saying it was a bit harsh on the comment about him being a long way from the sweetspot, if he's playing to around nine he's obviously not walking straight right after every shot he hits?
  7. All the Nippon range of irons come in both 0.355 and 0.370 tip.
  8. I had an Aixv V-series Pured and fitted it accordingly, it came out with the logo facing the target. I hit it and couldn't do anything but hit BIG hooks, that shot is not in my bag(hcp 1). My friend tried it and hit exactly the same shot(hcp 0.1). I ignored the puring and refitted it in logo down. Straight long drives ensued, both for me and my friend. I'm not sure of the technology in the Axiv but it felt as if the shaft was kicking in the direction of the logo, so when the shaft was off centre it went hard left through impact. For two golfers who rarely hit hooks to hit 10 big ones on the trot and then back to straight when the shaft is re-aligned seems an unlikely coincidence.

Underneath the grip at the top of the shaft will have the uncut shaft length and flex. For example: 36.5 X Hope this helps.
