I'm a 10 handicap, but I had been having a really hard time with bunkers. One of my friends told me about this method called the "bunker blast" that he saw on the golf channel. He's a pretty average to below average player, but i noticed he never had trouble getting out of the sand. He told me about the bunker blast. I tried it. and it's been about 10 rounds. Haven't had a hard time getting out of a bunker since. Line up like a normal sand shot (open face, open stance) but line up like you're going to hit it with the hosel of the club. Then swing at it and actually try to hit (behind the ball of course) with the hosel. Easy out every time. I swear by it.
