I've been playing one for over a year now. Amazing wedge. We are working on getting them in the shop and Chris is arranging a meetup with Tomaru-san during the Golf Fair.

Not a bad iron at all, it is comparable to the newer V Forged and aimed towards the better player and mid to single digit handicapper wanting a combination of playaability with some forgiveness.
  3. The Fourteen MT-28 V4 and JSPEC II are both forged. Previous generations of the MT-28 were all cast. The wedges look amazing at setup thanks to the reverse taper blade design they use.
  4. Hi guys, I'm just doing some wedge research and comparing typical lofts carried in bags. With the move to many strong lofted sets and PW's that have lofts like traditional 9 irons, it has forced many players to change their thinking when carrying wedges. Please post here all the wedges you carry, including the PW and what all their lofts are. ie. for me AF-701 PW 45*, Grind Studio Proto 50*, Gold's Factory Stage 5 57* Thanks!
  5. Very tough call. Two very different drivers, design wise and even time wise. The Revo is totally brand new released last month, the 450D is about to be replaced with a new model. Both are great drivers but the also target different players as the Revo is a big head high MOI style driver with one of the shallowest faces I have ever seen. The Nano is more a players head more traditionally shaped. So its a question really of which is the best driver for you and your game.
  6. There are actually a few. These are all definitely open: RC's new 304T compact and all lofts with open faces. http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p2294/...oduct_info.html PRGR's new and very nice GN502 FW. A I mentioned in my brief review I posted they are progressively open up to 2.0* open http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p2242/...oduct_info.html Geotech GT FW http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p1708/...oduct_info.html Geotech GT Black Fw http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p2273/...oduct_info.html Epon AF-201 http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p1429/...oduct_info.html These are square or/ to slightly open: Yamaha V FW http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p2216/...oduct_info.html TS X 701 FW http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p2161/...oduct_info.html Fourteen SF308 http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p1809/...oduct_info.html RC 304F http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p2296/...oduct_info.html Very very solid V-steel http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p1590/...oduct_info.html RC Pro TP http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p1444/...oduct_info.html Z-Steel II http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/p1372/...oduct_info.html
  7. Geotech has released a new wedge for the better player, a more advanced version of the Special Grind. I've added it to the pro shop and it looks to be a good one. Geotech Golf releases an all new forged wedge for 2009 aimed at the single digit handicapper and better player. The GT Tour is forged in Japan from mild steel and hand ground to suit the pro player. The new GT Tour features a straight neck, tear drop shape and is slightly smaller than the GT Forged. Each wedge is individually ground as follows: the approach wedges, 50 and 52 are ground with a half moon sole. This flat moon sole is made to easily glide through any lie providing a stable approach. The sand wedges, 56 and 58 use a cresent shaped V grind. This smooth cut sole is round and versatile and easy to open the face and use the bounce to your advantage in any lie. The GT Tour is a soft feel wedge with a focus on spin control. It is finished in a nickel chrome satin with a sand blasted face and topline. The heads are extra heavy for making acheiving desired swing weight. Sold as heads only with 0.370" parallel tips for all your favorite shafts.
  8. (^_^) Sometimes it takes a more advanced club to make a player better.
  9. That's correct. It's target audience is more of the mid to low handicappers, but that is not to say that an improving higher handicapper with good iron skills couldn't play them.
  10. Great feedback, if it kicks more than an XCon 5 I may just have to get one. (^_^)
  11. The 2006 is the more forgiving iron than the passing point which was originally Miura's attempt at a forgiving iron. Chris is right that the 2006 has more meat and a more forgiving sole than the passing point which was razor thin for a "forgiving iron".

James these are not forged but they have a rather soft feel thanks to the maraging face that is typically used on fairway woods. It has the feel of a titanium face but not metallic in that balls shoot off the face. The head size is smaller than the ViQ, perhaps a touch smaller than the aF-701 but there is more offset in the PRGR. The sole is very different as you can see in the pictures, this contributes to not only the forgiveness of the iron but also to the feel, it's trailing edge relief really allow it to glide at contact probably enhancing the feel. Definitely very forgiving, maybe more so than both the AF-701 and ViQ.

Played with the irons this weekend and they have a very unique feel to them with the maraging face. The ball is hot off the face and the iron produces very good distance. It has a similar feel to the Callaway Legacy Forged but the GN502 is not forged. Definitely an automatic iron even though the face is actually not overly large. Very forgiving grind. Just swing and the ball goes straight and high. I wasn't sure about the look of these irons when I first saw them but their appearance have definitely grown on me.
  14. Yup that's a new TS putter. I should add those to the shop. The new TS stuff sure is great. Thanks as always for your great feedback Randy!

It actually went down end of January. We are working on a new video provider as the one we were using before Brightcove, is far to costly for us. Thanks for waiting. T
  16. Ah I see. I was wondering why they looked a tad different. Almost a cross between the original 670 and EK. These are forged in Japan and available for loft lie adjustment by up to 2*. Drop me an email. We can definitely get these. T
  17. The EV series is very much the next step from the MD series. Lower torque coupled with a stiffer butt section compared to the MD makes this for the more aggressive transition as T pointed out above. This shaft can deal with extra lag and still produce stable mid to higher trajectory. GD has attempted to make this shaft as higher launch more carry than the MD and just as if not more stable.
  18. Hi Kev, long time no see. Hope you're well! The 670HC have been in the shop for a while. They are a pretty good iron for an open catalog model. In Japan you will also see this design branded as others. Thin topline, thin sole and relatively small offset. Soft feel and geared towards the better player.
  19. Marty, yes two finishes are available, the standard nickel chrome and a new nickel brown finish. You can also change the word X-Blade to gold, silver, white or black and score lines can be white or matched with the face color. Tourstage will also laser engrave names on the hosel now as an option. Shafts are still limited but at least they will adjust length which is a step forward for TS. NS Pro 900GH 850GH 950GH 950GHWF 1050GH V90 Tourstage MV266v DG GOLD SL R300 S300 X100 and DG R400 S200 S400 X100 I've attached a pic of the two finishes well three actually but black is not available for the 701
  20. J what shafts did you order with them? Why didn't you just order them with KB's? Seems like they are the most popular option these days.

Hit the driver this morning at the range. Very good feel and easy to hit a nice draw. The ball is workable but looks like this driver could help those with problems with the right side. Trajectory is not overly high and has some good run at the end. It is as long as my Epon 460.
  22. I hit the 5 wood this morning at the range and it is very long. The ball feels very hot off the face thanks in part to the maraging face. I like its size very much as it is not big at all.
  23. This version has pretty standard lies and not as flat as we'd like but as we discussed before it seems to be the direction brands are heading in with more upright lies. A tour model is a possibility but somehow I think not because this head is already compact and open face.

Last year was probably PRGR's best year ever sales wise and popularity wise. Their two top pros, Azuma Yano and Hideto Tanihara placed second and fourth respectively in the money rankings and their gear was more popular than ever. For 2009 PRGR has launched the new GN502 line. A high tech top quality line of clubs made to give a little something to all levels of golfers and that is performance. The all new GN502 driver is a combination of forgiveness, performance and workability. It has some interesting characteristics that make it a great all around driver for any level of player. While the head is a full 460cc and does look it at address, it does feature a high back design and a mid height face. The face is square and is made for high launch. At address the ridged crown actually looks pretty good and frames the ball almost like the way the Ping half moon used to do. Like previous drivers it has the recessed topline so is almost impossible to skymark. While it does have a mid height face the GN502 is long from heel to toe providing more hitting area and forgiveness on toe and heel mis hits which is common for the average golfer. The GN502 is designed to also help those battling the right side by placing the CG at a 30* angle relative to the face from the hosel which makes it easier to draw the ball. I like the driver a lot. It shouts high tech with its shape and design. The sole looks mean with its PRGR logo and ridged sides which help minimize friction and contact on the ground. It sets up well and is easy to hit and feels quite solid.I received a 10.5* demo with PRGR M-40 shaft. I need to get out and hit this thing properly before I can give real feedback on performance. That will follow. Here are the pics!
  25. Okay I am going to tell you right off the bat I love these woods. They are going in my bag. I will copy my PRGR blurb from the iron thread here: Last year was probably PRGR's best year ever sales wise and popularity wise. Okay so these woods rock. Why? Unlike the previous M3 Hit line (not counting the Tour model), the GN502 is compact and features a very traditional shape and very shallow profile. This does sound a bit odd as most compact and traditional shaped FW's feature deeper faces but the GN502 is different. The GN502 features a variable thickness HT1770 maraging face. Variable thickness faces are all the rage on drivers these days, creating a sling shot like affect and a sweet spot that has awesome feel. PRGR carries this over into their FW. The reason why the GN502 is able to maintain a traditional shape is it did not need to stretch the head back like many modern designs today do to bring CG lower. PRGR instead accomplishes this by using a tungsten plate in the sole which brings all the weight down and the CG low. Another thing that better players will like is the faces on these woods are all pretty much open. The 3W is square but the 4 to 9 wood feature 0.5* to 2.0* open faces. Hitting these at the range so far feels great and the ball rockets off the face. Fades or draws are not an issue even with the shallow profile. One other great thing on the PRGR FW is like the driver it has a recessed topline making it almost impossible to sky one and chip paint from where the crown meets the face like what so often happens with other FW's (including the old M3 Hit) Here are the pics:
