New steel shafts for irons?

I would try the Nippons. I'm currently playing the 850s and love them. I had a seet of Marumans with 950s and the are incrediable. I used to play the DG's in my MX20's and the Nippons would be what the doctor ordered. You have 3 weight ranges, 100g 90g & 80g's.

Try Paul at Shreveport Golf, he's a sponsor on the site and does great work. Good luck!

It's interesting how different a shaft can feel from one person to the next. I demoed the NS950 a few days ago after having heard so many good things about this shaft but to my surprise I found it to be anything but smooth for me. I ended up choosing the X-100. Also I'd guess the 100g NS shaft is about 30g lighter than what the Godfather1 ordered. :smile2:

Different colors for different tastes.

The exact weight can be found on the Nippon website. I gave ball bark figures. The 1050 shaft is from 106 to 114G.

Thank you

This year I have played with the Project X 5.0 and the NS Pro 1050 S. I like them both. The flexes are comparable to a Flighted Rifle 5.5, IMO. The PX has a different feel that you need to experience to appreciate and I think is straighter than the Flighted Rifle and NS Pro because it is tip stiff. The NS Pro feels more responsive than the Flighted Rifle (I think the Flighted Rifles feel a little dead) or PX and has sort of a nice tingle at impact.

FWIW, Ari at Scratch (FairwayFred) this year has played the PX, then switched back to the DG, and, last I heard, was playing the NS Pro 1050. He gets the NS Pros through Chris (TourSpecGolfer).

Believe it or not, I've never played DG's in a set of irons, only hit demo's, so I'm not the best to answer that question. What I can tell you is that the PX feel is different; I liked it, Ari ultimately didn't.

My view is that you need a crisp release to get the most out of the PX; a blocker won't like them, IMO. Also, the PX is sort of a "full-swing" shaft, if that makes any sense: i.e., if you like to hit a lot of part shots, the PX may feel a little unresponsive.

All three are good shafts and great golf is played with each of them; however, the NS Pro is probably the friendliest.

Actually, I built Ari's last set of CB's done in copper. He is using the X flex 1050's. He is very happy with this set up. Contact him and he can tell you more. I believe he had his best round with this set.

FWIW I have been a DG guy for many years. I played on the Hooter's and Tight Lies tours. I switched to Nippon last year and have been amazed at the feel and consistency of the shafts. I also noticed for me (and many of my other customers) that by having more weight on the head (for proper swingweight) I am able to feel where the club head is in my swing. I believe Nippon is a great choice for any player when you find the right flex. I have been dealing with them for a good while and know how to compare them to DG's and Rifle's flexes.

Godfather, if you have any questions feel free to contact me. I can give you more information about these shafts.

Paul -

What does a dealer have to do to get dealer price on the NS's?

I've written them on a couple occasions and either they don't understand english, or simply ignoring me.

It's disconcerting that my customers can demo irons (like on the Titleist cart) and fall in love with the shafts...but I can't deliver them on assembled clubs at less than Donald Trump cost.

hi ,

i am currently looking to buy a set of TM300 series irons , the problem is in the most part they come with either rifle 6.0 or tt s300 shafts , i currently use rifle 5.0 reg flex in x14pro series , my accuracy is not what it was , and a colleague whos good player advised me to go with a stiffer shaft , but with no local shops or clubs to help with this i wanted to know if any one out there can help advise me ,

i hit my 7 iron 145-150 carry , hit my 5 iron 165-170 , carry , if i where to go with a stiffer club in what way could it harm my game , what are the downs side and the up sides ? is the s300 not as stif as the rifle 6.0 , i have even use the shaft fit on T.T. site and that seems to say use the s300 or r300 if i vary my input just slightly , so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated ,

by the way i hit reg flex driver r320 aprox 230-260 if this is any help

thanks again

Steve

I think this question was already answered in two other threads.

Why don't you go with your colleagues advice? I imagine he's seen your swing and has offered you some good advice. We haven't seen your swing and the best I can do is recommend this or that shaft based on my experience, my swing. I understand your uncertainty, and if I felt that way, too, I'd make a trip to a club builder, even if it's a longish drive to a neighboring city, get properly fitted, and put my mind to rest.

thanks swunk i will find a club builder and get things sorted properly before i purchase my new clubs

Steve

Steve,

Getting fitted is a smart investment that, in the long run, will probably save you a lot more than the cost of reshafting your irons. Plus the added confidence that comes with a set of fitted irons and woods should shave a few strokes here and there, too! Let us know how things turn out...
