InTheHole
Tested at a Achiver GAM indoor launch monitor recently. Driver used was a TM 510TP Tour 10.5 shafted with a Fuji 569 Tour SpecR tipped 0.5" playing at 44.5" D1.5. Used two different balls - Pro V and Pro Vx With Pro V:- My average ball speed was 140mph, launch angle of 15*, average carry of 205 yds and an average spin rate of 4200. With Pro Vx:- Average ball speed was 142mph, launch angle of 14*, average carry of 210yds and an average spin rate of 4100. I noticed that the spin rates are quite high - could this be limiting my overall carry distance? Would I be better off playing a Precept U-tri Extra Distance ball (lower spin)? I also have the following readings for a 5 iron:- Average ball speed was 129mph, launch angle of 17.8*, average carry of 180yds and average ball spin of 6000. Am I playing a wrong shaft in the driver? How to get some more distance? Thanks
tbone69
The results of your session are odd. Your ball speed with the driver is not in line with that of your 5 iron. A shaft can help, but there are no shafts made can correct the disparity in numbers. As far as your spin rate, it is way high :) . You should be a little under 3000, depending on your launch and swing speed. With a lower SS, a bit more spin will give you extra carry(sans the wind etc..). If you are a strong swinger, with a SS above 105mph, you should be launching the ball around 11-14 degrees and keeping your spin at around 2900. Hope this helps. jboy
Not sure about the launch angle on the driver but could it be you're too steep on angle of attack for the driver (hitting down on it)? would explain why your 5 iron carry is up close to your driver (strange) Driver figures should be longer. slicktry
I think knowing your swing speed would be a definite help. With a spinrate of 4200, it is way too high. With that kind of spin, balooning would most certainly be factor. Secondly what was your highest launch angle during your session? I think that an R flex is way to whippy. I could be wrong, but isn't a 569 Tourspec a mid high flex? I think that with any shaft with a high flex point, a flex stronger should be applied. For example, on tour shafts that I currently own and have experience with, I have found that I need a XX flex when the shaft has a high flex point, while with a low kick shaft it would be a S flex tipped 1-1.5" or so. Also, with a low kick shaft it is better to have a lower lofted driver. Most tour pros, however, find that the best spin rates occur with a higher flex point combined with a higher loft (9.5-10.5). Paddy uses a prolite 35x and 7.5* driver, b/c he says this gives him the best possible spin rates, wherein Kheune uses a 9.5-10.5 with a XX flex shaft that has a high flex point. This may confuse you even more, but I think it is better to experiment with different lofts and flex points.... So in closing, YOU NEED TO DO MORE HO'ING!!!!! :money: God Bless Jer P.S., most likely someone else will have a completely different angle and shoot me down. Above stated is IMO!!!!!!!!!
