What impact does tipping 1/2 inch have to stiffness.  Does it make it more or less stiff than the stock stiff Purple Ice shaft.  Thanks.

Graphite Design recommends tipping the Purple Ice one (1) inch for standard bore hosels like the hosel in the Cleveland COMP. I find that the Purple Ice shaft plays stiff to flex and instructed my clubfitter to install the shaft to frequency at 250 CPM, which is about a normal stiff flex at 4 inches. To frequency at 250 CPM, only 1/2 inch of tip trimming was required.

Tipping any shaft will make it play stiffer. The more the tip is trimmed, the stiffer a shaft will play. Generally, tip trimming one (1) inch usually results in increasing the flex a full increment.

Thanks for your interest and let me know if you have other questions.

Tempted! Need a Callaway 10* 454 NV stiff mint condition for a trade? I can add if necessary? Any idea what the Stiff stock would CPM at?

whats your driver of choice these days?

Dan

Dan,

The 454 is a nice driver but my driver of choice is the 10.5 983K. I will stick with the 983K until the 905T is available. I did not have the COMP measured with the stock stiff shaft but I would guess it would meaure around 240-245 CPM. The Purple Ice installed measures about 250 CPM.

I may consider a trade for the 454.

Thanks,

Steve
