Curious : Could some of the Tour 905s be pre-release retails

Yes but what I'm wondering is if some of the "tour" heads are actually retail heads that have already been pre-released to a few retail sources and these heads are being passed as tour especially since there are no visible differences between titleist tour and titleist retail heads.

I ain't sayin there's a big deal of difference. Just wondering if the above is going on.

Know your source, that's all I'll say, by the way, wipe that Koolaid from your chin !

I don't know if that's good enough. Just becoz someone owns a site and says he or she has tour sources doesn't mean he or she really has tour sources don;t you reckon? Maybe he or she does but how do you verify for yourself with 100% certainty?

That excuse just like the "tour serial number buffed out to protect player's identity" excuse is not good enough for me.

Very true. I understand your point better now. It's just very hard to verify what is tour or not. Maybe some people perceive prototype/pre-release as Tour. Although clubs might be proto/prelease, they might not be tour. Same goes if they really are tour, it might not be pre release or protos. Probably just tighter tolerances.

Perhaps Titleist or any other company can come out with a driver/irons authentication service like Scotty Cameron has. It should be a logical step with the growing interest in tour/prototype clubs. What do you think?

Dang! I'm getting old but that 15 year old can drive the ball far... into massive head wind. It's about 15* playing temp and with wind chill, it takes getting used to. Got at least 7 more rounds coming in and I'll probably leave my putts short for the first few rounds when I return. the greens here are fast but they hold.

I spoke to a Titleist Staff pro at the Honda Classic and again today to a Titleist sales rep. The "tour spec" stuff without serial numbers being peddled on EBAY are for the most part DEMOS to Reps -so do not be fooled by all this "tour spec" no seial number crap. Its hogwash. Just a few hungry reps out to make a score. If titleist tracks them down they are HISTORY. Thats why they usually sell through other states and friends etc. to try and hide out. True Titleist staff pros go for special fittings and the heads are exactly the same with just slight alterartion to customize shaft and head weight to the individual. the metal is the same as we purchase at retail outlets. Do not buy the BS.

That's what I suspected. So, based on the above, the ones in the swap shop shop here are......
