The effects of playing the wrong length clubs?

i can tell you now that if you are really tall and are using standard clubs, your swing will become extremely upright. consequently, if you are short and using standard clubs, your swing may become extremely flat. you would either change the length of your irons to fit these issues or bend the lie angles

Joe and others : Does using the wrong length clubs have an effect on developing swing faults? Are there tendencies you get from using ill fitting equipment? If so what are they for

Too long clubs

Too short clubs

IMHGO The main factors of playing wrong lenght club are making you in an awkward posture at address, thus it will effect on your timing, tempo, and lie angle of the club.

If you keep on forcing it, you will definitely developed a bad habbit which lead you to become an unconsistent swinger.

Cheers!

I'm no swing doctor, but playing the wrong length club will have a large impact on your lie angle. For every 1/2" in length you add to a club, it will play roughly 1 more degree upright. This means if you measure to standard length, standard lie, and are playing clubs that are 1/2" over standard, the lie will be 1 degree too upright for you.

It sounds , from what your saying that there is a direct coralation between your height and club length. if that's true how do you measure to get the right length shaft. Also wouldn't everyone have the same swing if this is true? I'm 5'6" and useing standard length clubs. When checked with a slate board My clubs hit flush. I was told because of that the length didn't matter. Please set me straight.

Thanks,

Thanks,

At 5'6" does not means you have to play shorter club and doesn't have to be flater lie. The reason is that your body parts proportion is consider at normal to each other, that is why you are probably at standard lie w/ standard lenght club. Plus swing style can be different also at impact possition, even w/ the same body spec.

Basically there are no way to tell somebody that they need flat or upright lie from just only their body postures. It's got to be include swinging the club w/ a real ball. That is why we call it Dynamic fitting system.

I've seen someone at 5'5" at 4* upright and i've seen some one at 6'0" at 4* flat.

Cheers!

serious joe!!!! i have always been told because im 5'8 that i need 2 flat....end of story...

i take it this is wrong then! how do u dynamic fit someone??

Come over here and I'll make you hit your club w/ your own ball and tweak your club slowly till we got it right.

Well, That is basically what has to be done hit them on a lie board and find the right swing and solid hit.

I even occationally check customers swing and give them a little tips if i see something way out of line. :smile1:

I'm just about 10 minutes from the Airport toward The beautifull city of San Francisco. :smile1:

To answer your question, I would have to say depending on the set up you want to end up with. It might be slightly different if it different set up from a different heads and shafts.

Let me know!

I think it can defiently make a difference they say if you are over 6feet1 then you are supposed to get your clubs lengthened

Not necessarily. There is a bit more to length than just a person's height. If I'm fitting a T-Rex looking dude who is 5'6", or an Abe Lincoln looking fellow who is 6'6", they might very well play the same length clubs.

Most people, in my experience, who are over 6'0" have been more comfortable with longer clubs, but there is no rule set in stone.
