Posted May 16, 200519 yr comment_94328 which grip helps to form a flat left wrist at the top of the swing, interlock or overlap?
May 16, 200519 yr comment_94342 Interlap. interlap - what is this? A bad joke ;) I strengthen my right hand only to gain that flat left wrist position at the top.
May 17, 200519 yr comment_94407 Flat wrist at the top is not important. What's important is what you feel more comfortable with. I use the interlock, that's how I first learned. When I make a swing using a overlap or 10 finger, I can't even hit the ball. Use what grip you have now, because that's the grip your swing is used to. I think the interlock is the better of the grips. It's not the most used, but it promotes a better hold on the club, which resists twisting of the clubhead at impact.
May 24, 200519 yr comment_95218 I interlock. I tried overlap and felt I didn't have any control over the club.
May 30, 200519 yr comment_95741 The grips are made more specifaclly for hand size and comfort level. I don't have really long fingers or large hands so i use the interlock. I've used the interlock all my life (i don't even remeber gripping a club any other way). I can use the ovelap okay, but there is spaces between my hands and it's not a firm hold. My golf bud uses the ten figer grip that he switched from the overlap. He says its almost the same.

May 30, 200519 yr comment_95754 i tried to overlap once and my club ended up 60 yards in front of me.
June 3, 200519 yr comment_96172 i tried to overlap once and my club ended up 60 yards in front of me. That's what I'm afraid of if I do the overlap. It really doesn't feel secure.
June 3, 200519 yr comment_96177 its what you feel comfy with. I interlock. I have big hands and everyone tells me thats abnormal that i interlock , but hey.. thats what im comfortable with.
June 3, 200519 yr comment_96194 it seems like overlap is for small hands and interlock is for big hands. I use interlock either way cuz thats what i've been taught
June 5, 200519 yr comment_96291 Actually zojo it's the other way around. Most players with smaller hands don't use the overlap because it's too hard to get their hands on the club and stay connected. My figers are quite stout, so i'm not all for using the overlap. I've used the interlock for my entire golfing life and can't complain. I tried the overlap out at the range the other day and hit the ball way right. It's all about comfort and i'll agree with the above posts on that. That comfort thing incorperates itself into the big and small hand thing.
June 8, 200519 yr comment_96542 That's what I've heard too. But, my hands are medium sized, so I can go either way, I just learned with the interlock.
June 13, 200519 yr comment_97235 Not saying anything about there being no exceptions. You're obviously one. Your comfortable with what you do.
June 13, 200519 yr comment_97289 Whatever grip returns the clubface to the ball square for you. You should try both , and see what suits . Both grips are correct . so use what feels best.
September 20, 200519 yr comment_103275 Interlock for me a la my boy Tiger and his boy Jack. However, that's not a critique of the overlap grip which I think can be mastered with practice. The only grip I would NOT recommend is the baseball (10 finger) grip. Great way to get wristy.
September 21, 200519 yr comment_103302 I started as a kid with the 10 finger baseball grip, then went to the vardon overlap grip and recently I switched to the interlock grip without any hassles. I have small to medium sized hands and found that my grip of the club at the top of my swing is more secure with the interlock grip.
September 21, 200519 yr comment_103389 i have smallish hands and have always used the interlock grip....now it is the only comfortable grip for me... though i have two younger sisters, one 10 and the other 12...both learning golf and the coach has recommended they start of by using the 10 finger grip.........is it just me or is this strange?
September 21, 200519 yr comment_103393 +1, I think it is common for beginners and seniors. In fact, I actually learned with a 10 finger grip and it took me all of 1 day at the range to switch to interlocking when the time was right. (In fairness, my instructor wanted me to switch to interlock OR overlap and I just couldn't get the hang of overlap as quickly - I wish I could b/c I felt at the time that having less of my right hand on the club was - on paper - a better thing).
September 21, 200519 yr comment_103394 yeah, less of the right hand would give you more control and less jerk! i didnt realise that it was common to teach beginners a 10 finger grip! also maybe because they are young and girls the coach just wanted them to use their wrists more.......and a 10 finger grip would certainly help with that!
September 22, 200519 yr comment_103410 With juniors, I think the first few months needs to be about being out there and having fun swinging the club. Chances of contact/feel of control is higher with a baseball grip. Technique is not an issue if you don't think it's a fun game to play.
February 2, 200619 yr comment_114630 I go with the interlock, I just get more freedom for wrist cock for me.
