freaknasty
I just got my dad's 690 C.B. irons and he ordered them +1/2 inch length. I want to cut them down to standard and I wondered how much that will affect the weight of the clubs.
jeffy
About 3 swingweights, so if they are now D2, they will go to C9. I cut down my irons two weeks ago and had the clubmaker add lead tape to the back of the heads to bring them back to D3. Worked great and looks kind of cool. freaknasty
So is C9 bad? I mean I always thought they were a little heavy and wouldn't mind having them lighter, but will it mess up the balance?
jeffy
It isn't "bad" if you like the feel; some might think the clubhead would be a little light at C9, however for years all Ping irons were in that range.
NickBooras
Go to your local golf shop and swing weight the irons to see where they currently sit. I could be wrong, but it has been my experience with Titleist that they will only adjust (lighten) the swing weight of the set if you request it, otherwise, they just assemble the set at 0.5" over and allow them to be 3 swing weights heavier. IMO, you probably won't want to go below about a D0, but if you're making solid contact with the lighter swing weight, that's all that matters.
