CaptStubins
Should the right arm be completely extended at impact for a right hander, or should there be some small amount of bend? Also, should I feel as though I'm straightening that arm from the beginning of the downswing to help keep the club from getting stuck behind? Thanks. You should have a bent right arm at impact that is straightening with a flat left wrist and bent back right wrist. The straightening of the right arm (extensor action) provides real punch and snap to the stroke. The degree of bend is dependant on how low the trail shoulder is at impact . The lower it is the more bend in the right arm. The straightening of the right arm is caused by a pivot induced throwout in swingers and a deliberate tricep muscle punch in hitters. You should have the slight feeling of the right arm stretching the left arm address to the top and past impact. This gives structure to the arms and snap and crunch to your stroke.
