Why should shafts in fairway woods be lighter than ones in drivers?

I put Fuji 569 in my driver but have 75 gram stock shaft on my bigbertha 3&5 FW. What if I reshaft with 50grams shaft like Fuji 569 or something like that? What happens? May gain distance? Lose accuracy?

Some advice please!!!

Edwin because the fw is much shorter than your driver you need a slightly heavier shaft. The heavier shaft when cut to playing length should roughly weight around the same as your driver. The purpose of this is to achieve a playable swingweight! If you put in a shaft that is too light, you will achieve a silly swingweight making the performance of the club off!

Ask your clubfitter he will be able to give you a more detailed response.....

Edwin - hard to answer without knowing your swing characteristics. However, generally speaking, both will happen. So unless you are thinking of using a FW (i.e., Spoon) as a replacement for your driver, most want to keep their FWs heavier than their driver.

I'd have to say that if you are comfortable with 55g in your driver (I'll assume a driver SS of 90 or so?) and you like the Speeders, then you should think about going to the 652 in your fairways for the reasons given by +1.

In anticipation of your next questions, yes it's worth it to get the right weight and yes you will see a performance difference over the stock Callaway shafts. :tsg_smilie_cool:
