david_leathem
hi there i really want project x i hit the ball quite high. my swing speed is consistantly 107 - 108 mph with the driver can someone tell the flex i would need in these shafts. Another small question i was wondering are they easy to put in. What i mean is do they have to be factory fitted or can they be done correctly in a pro shop. I have Mizuno mp 32 with s300's would i need to change the swing weight or is a simple case of putting them in. If someone can help i would be so thankful Thanks Edited September 21, 2006 by project_x6868

With Tour Concept or Nippon, a S flex is an S flex. RP's shafts aren't like that. Once installed, they need to be played with a little to get them all uniform. Even so, all RP shafts I've played - every one - were stiff to flex. My current 6.0 Tour Flighted Rifles have a CPM of 322 (7.2 or equivalent to the DGX100) :tsg_smilie_confused: You need to know this going in. The standard Project X also FEELS stiff to flex because of the way it's designed. With the way the PX plays/feels I would consider a 5.0. Hope this helps. If someone can help i would be so thankful Thanks These are not a difficult install at all, but can be difficult to fit properly, since their performance characteristics are so different from any other shaft except the True Temper Black Gold. You'll need .355 Taper shafts, and they are of course butt-trim only. They are also constant-weight, and NOT frequency matched (the freq is often pretty wild with these), but this won't make much difference coming from DG - swingweights should be roughly similar since the weights are so close. As far as what flex you need, it could be anywhere from 5.0 to softstepped 6.5, but most likely 5.5 will work well. If your tempo is very slow, then consider softstepping the 5.5 (put the 3i shaft in the 4i, the 4i shaft in the 5i, then butt-trim to length). If your tempo is very quick, then I'd suggest the 6.0, again perhaps softstepping once, but overall 5.5 is a good place to start, assuming you now carry your 5i somewhere around 190, and your 150 club is either a big 9i or a smooth 8i. Whether you should do this yourself kinda depends - if you have good measuring tools - at least a gram scale and ideally also a swingweight scale, and a supply of tipweights and ferrules, you should be OK. Thanks very much for your help. Tell me this does swing wait matter, i mean does it effect the performance of the club or is it purely self preferance wheither you like it heavier or lighter also can changing the shafts go terribly wrong even if there done by a professional Thanks

I would just ask your pro if they've done project X before. Let us know how they hit.
awalkspoiled
Thanks very much for your help.Tell me this does swing wait matter, i mean does it effect the performance of the club or is it purely self preferance wheither you like it heavier or lighter also can changing the shafts go terribly wrong even if there done by a professional Thanks My pleasure. Swingweight DOES matter - it affects the feel of the club and also the stiffness of the shaft. Essentially each added swingweight point softens the shaft by 1 cpm. However, if you know what you like and tell your clubbuilder he'll set them up just how you want them - few golfers can tell one or two points either way, but many can tell three or four. Most OEM sets will be in the range of C8 (some Pings) to D2 (Macgregor, Wilson) but most will be right around D1. Nothing should go wrong with the pull or install if your guy's careful - the PX are terrific shafts and you're gonna love 'em. Don't go too stiff is all I'd say... Just curious to what an s400 would play like in tfr.. thanks MY fcm tour flighted tour 6.0s were playing to 7.2. I have no idea what others play to. And that's my problem :tsg_smilie_whistle: PX doesn't seem to have the same issue.
