AKIRA TM Driver, Wedges and Hybrid

Has anyone tried the AKIRA TM Driver? I'm really happy with this club with the Fujikura Rombax 70 gram shaft. I've never hit anything this long and accurate. I was just wondering if it's just me or the 45 day rule? I've tried the Maruman Exim Nano and all the latest US spec drivers and nothing gave me the distance and feedback as this driver. I was also wondering if anyone has tried it, what shaft they had with it. I'm hitting a club, sometimes two clubs, less into holes on Harding. And it's easily carrying 260-270 with a nice swing and it's trajectory is nice and boring and seems to stay in the air longer--and this is in Harding where the air is heavy, weather is cold and wind kicks up. If anyone has tried it can they compare it to the other Japanese spec drivers? The AKIRA logo looks like something from Star Trek or the Acura.

I'm waiting for the new ON/OFF Driver which should get here soon so I have another JDM Driver to compare it to, but as of now, all I can say about Japanese clubs is--WOW!!!

The wedges are also terrific--superb bite and distance control.

The AKIRA hybrid is the first hybrid that I can hit--I could never hit the other hybrids out on the market for no particular reason.

A bit of a blast from the past... Reggie, have you or anyone else been keeping up with Akira products? I have heard very little about them in Japan, but I tried one of the hybrids pictured in your post here, and it is quite a solid club.

I have not been keeping up with any of their other products. I still have the same driver and was lucky enough to purchase a 9 degree head. I haven't decided which shaft to put on it . . . yet. I'm still waiting for Cris to give a complete feedback on the test shafts he's been trying. I've tried other drivers on the market, Tourstage, On/Off with a Roddio Shaft, domestic brands, Maruman, etc and nothing has performed better than the Akira with the Rombax shaft. The head gives a very solid feel and is hot, hot, hot. I'm getting roll that I never had with any of the drivers I've tried. I thought the 45 day rule would apply but it's been nearly a year and it's still in my bag. I have not seen anything on the market that would make me change with the possible exception of the new Black On/Off but I think I'd rather spend the money on an exotic shaft to put with my other Akira head. The only thing I've heard about the company is that their irons were highly rated by Golf Partners and were endorsed by that organization. I really doubt if Akira can come out with a better head than the TM but I'm willing to try with a company whose products have been very good to me!!! BTW, the 9 degree with the Rombax shaft performed so well that my buddies ended up paying for the new 9 degree head . . . if you get my drift. :atsg_smilie_rough: If you can still find some here in the US, I would definitely give it a try.

As far as the hybrid, I gave it up because I had to change my swing with it. The Nippon steel shaft on it was too light and I had to slow down too much. But when I did time it correctly, the club was solid. My buddy ended up with the club and he has been ecstatic with its performance. He now is able to hit the green from 200 yards out and be able to land it soft. He is no longer afraid of the long par 3's. As for me, my 3 and 4 iron still performs beautifully and still feels ultra soft even if I did not know that it was ENDO Forged.

Thanks for the update Reggie. I'm happy to hear that you found a great combo with the driver, and if you can squeeze a bit more out with another shaft, so much the better!

I'm tempted to put the Akira Hybrid in the bag but we'll see. As for the drivers, I haven't hit one, but if I run accross one in the future, I'll be sure to test it out! Thanks again for the review!
