TheAssassin
I currently have a Taylormade Rescue Dual that is 19 degrees, equipped with the stock hDiamana shaft. It is a stiff but I had it cut and tweaked to make the shaft stronger because I could not afford to buy a new shaft or replace the club. However, now that it is possible, I need to either replace the club or the shaft. I need to replace one of the two because I can not control the trajectory. I know that hybrids are designed to fly higher but I want to be able to hit lower trajectory shots as well. I have also tried changing the weights in the club, but it did not help. Is there any hybrid or shaft that will allow me to control trajectory or should I just go back to the 2-iron? My swing speed is 110-112 with the driver. Duffer19
You want a low launch hybrid or you actually want to control trajectory with weights and things?
rollaman430
I think the Idea Pro with the right shaft is probably the easiest hybrid on the market for controlling trajactory. I feel I can hit it low and high, with a nice penetrating trajactory. My problem is also the shaft...I really like the head, but am also fishing for the right shaft...the stock 'VS Proto By You' is a bit light and too low of torque for me...I am an NV guy who likes the 'freq.' and feel of those in my woods, but the 'By You' seems too tight on torque and I can't really feel the club head on the down swing...I might go with the NV Hybrid 105-X...anybody play this in there utility club?...and how does it play? ClubHoUno
If you want control in your hybrid, I persoanally would advice you to skip graphite shafts in your hybrids, and go with a quality steel shaft that will give you the launch angle you seek for. If you however want a graphite shaft in your hybrid, I would consider getting a heavy graphite shaft that will provide you with a lower trajectory and resemble the characteristics of a steel shaft. If you want a JDM hybrid, I would consider the G Field Utility club - with a heavy graphite shaft or a steel shaft for better and lower trajectory control. Unfortunately you can't buy the G Field Utility club here on TSG anymore (don't know why that is) but try some of the other JDM vendors if you want this one. I really must say that I find the range of hybrid clubs in the TSG shop pretty narrow - we need some more hybrid clubs to choose from Chris
Blader-X
In terms of graphite shafts, you cannot go wrong with Graphite Design TourAD UT series. Several weights to choose from depending upon what you're looking for from 55-95gms. In terms of hybrids, I like the old TRC from Sonartec and the G-Fields. Both utilize rails and I think this makes the hybrid very versitile. I have used up to three hybrids over the last year at one time in the bag but will soon be carrying none as I want to experiment with a 7 wood. I'm just hooking the crap out of my hybrids right now even with their square face setups. Just need a bit of change. The new Cobra Bafflers are getting really good reviews and look good as well. I have been a big fan of certain hybrids like I mentioned but not all hybrids. I don't like the box shape of the Sonartec MD styles and hate the thick toplines like you see in the Fourteen driving iron types. One more shaft that I really like in a hybrid is the old reliable Speeder 757. I have two hybrids with this shaft and they have always done well. Trajectory is very penetrating. Nice flight with surprisingly a lot of spin to stop the shots on the green. With both the Speeder and GD UT-85 I've had no trouble controlling the trajectory of shots. Its just right now the G-Field is getting some crazy hooks but I think that could be just a problem of club weighting, its definitely not the shaft. Hybrids in my view are very personal and it takes time to find one you really like. Mine could very well end up in the bag again but for now, they will be taking a back seat to the 7 wood. Good luck in your search. Edited April 15, 2007 by Blader-X
TheAssassin
Thanks for all of the suggestions, I will definitely search around and try to find the right combination. Are there any specific shafts that you have found to work well with hybrids for trajectory control? Much thanks to Blader-X and rollaman 430 for the suggestions. I currently have a 3wood witha 952 Speeder and I love the penetrating trajectory. Is there anything for hybrids that is similar in terms of weight and control? I currently have a 3wood witha 952 Speeder and I love the penetrating trajectory. Is there anything for hybrids that is similar in terms of weight and control? In terms of hybrid shafts that I'm aware of the GD UT-95 and the Fujikura 904HB. The GD is 95 grams and the Fuji is 100 grams. I have the Fuji in an old Titleist Utility. Good shaft, it performed very well. Don't see this shaft used a lot, at least I haven't. I really like the GD shafts but when I think to all the shots I've hit with different utility clubs I would have to say the majority came from the TRC's I had shafted with Speeder 757's. I have a lot of those shots in the memory banks over the past few years. I basically had my clubmaker take out those from drivers or 3 woods I was no longer using and put in the utilities. They worked great for control and trajectory. Keep us informed on how it goes and what you decide to do.
