TaylorMade r7, Mizuno JPX E500, ViQ, Cobra UPI....

Recommended Posts

I just recently started to look into a new set of clubs (U.S. clubs at first). A friend just got the new TMade r7 forged clubs in from tourspecsgolf and recommended I check out the site. After seeing them and hitting them I am sold on clubs made in Japan. Nothing in the U.S. seems to compare.

My problem is that I am a 13 handi-cap and need a forgiving club. I can't handle a "players club" right now. The Cobra UPI and Mizuno JPX E500 look forgiving, but I have nothing to confirm this. In your opinion what is a good forgiving club to get. I am new to the world of Japan made clubs, but am dying to learn more!!!

Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forums! You'll find many threads here on all the wonderful forged irons that come out of Japan. There are tons to choose from including brands that you're probably not as familiar with like Epon and Tourstage and others which make forgiving forged irons with great feel. The Mizuno JPX are indeed very nice irons, forgiving and good looking with performance and feel to boot. I'd suggest Epon Type S or X or if you don't mind something a little larger in size, TourStage's ViQ Forged was voted iron of the year in Japan for all around feel, forgiveness and performance. Make sure you spend time looking at all the threads that have been posted in the Gear category here over the last couple of months for feedback as well as check out the Top Line references to see irons that suit your eyes at address. :tsg_smiley_putter2:

Having played two rounds with my R7 Forged I would say a 13 handicap could certainly handle them. I have not got to know them very well yet but they are quite generous in handling mis**ts.

Good luck with your search. Whatever anyone says, quality Japan forgings can bring a new level to enjoying golf.

Thanks for the tips and keep'em coming. The Japanese forged clubs have me hooked. I just want to be sure I find the right set since the are no demos in Dallas. I'll check out the ViQ's and the Epson's as well. Some of the brands I'm sure are great, just not commonly known in the states.

May I suggest...

Go to your local Golf shop that can "fit" you.

One of the great things with about getting clubs from this site is ordering in the clubs to YOUR SPECS.

Meaning: shaft brand, shaft flex, length, loft, lie, grip size...

IMO. Besides the Fantastic set of clubs you will get, having them built to your specs will be the one thing that will improve your game as much as anything.
