gocchin
I had a massive gap between my 10.5* Epon driver and XXIO 17* Utility as I hadn't been carrying a wood since I dropped my G-field 4 wood. In my quest for a new wood, I looked at G-Field, Tourstage, Srixon, Onoff and Epon. In the end based on Epon quality and reputation I decided to go for the Technity 15* 3 Wood that I could use off the tee occasionally too. I knew it probably wasn't the most forgiving out of what I was looking at but guessed it probably had the best feel based on hitting Epon drivers and irons and feedback from other members here. Once again, Epon is all about feel, performance, and looks. When the 3 wood arrived I just kept staring at it because it was so stunning. Typical Epon quality. Tourstage X-Drive FW's look high tech, G-Field understated business, Onoff more plain, and the Epon yes... art. After a few days of staring at it. I shafted it up with an Axiv 5052L I had lying around. I know typically for stability it'd be smart to go with a heavier FW shaft but I like to experiment and I like things light, so in went the 52g 5052L which made for a driver and having a soft tip was a little on the soft side, so it was tipped 3/4" to make it perfect for a 3 wood at 42" (I play all my lengths shorter). Common Japanese 3 wood length is actually around 42.5" so it's not too far off. I took some pics and headed off to the range to give her a try... as Blader-X told me ahead of time, the feel of the Epon FW is just amazing. Now I understand why Chris, Blader-X and idrive are always raving about these fairway woods. They are mini Technity drivers and more forgiving than I expected, while not quite as forgiving as the compact GFT, the feel more than makes up for it. Those who love Epon driver and iron feel will not be disappointed. The pear shape with no alignment mark is also very pleasing at address. I was happy with the Axiv pairing. I'm not a fast swinger as most of you know I usually use R flex, the low kick point and light weight help get the ball up and resulted in a nice boring trajectory. I'm very happy with this FW. I hit so many different brands and models of clubs, sometimes all it takes is one shot, you can either bag it or put it back on the shelf... this is one of those where you hit one and it instantly goes in the bag. Now gotta get back out for 18 with this baby. (^_^) Thanks again to TSG for bringing Epon into my life.

gocchin
gocchin, great review! do you have any side by side pics of the gft fw vs the epon fw? thanks. I have a GFT at my clubfitters so can't take side by side pics, but Blader-X did take some in his Technity FW review... I will borrow them for here (thanks B!): TourEdge Exotcs 15°, Epon Technity 13.5°, G-Field GFT 16° G-Field GFT 16°, Epon Technity 13.5°, TourEdge Exotcs 15° G-Field GFT 16° Epon Technity 13.5°

rb2235
don't you have one on the way Yes, 2nd time around. First one had a Mach 55 S/R which was not a good fit for me weight/flexwise so looking forward to the Quattro 75S. Will post a review versus the most unheralded fairway wood of our time IMO... the PING Tec.
idrive
FWIW I have the same 3 wood combo also (Mach 55 S) as well as one with the q-tech 75 S shaft. They are just not the same. They perform much differently. For me, the Quattro tech shaft makes this club work much better. Looking forward to that review.
Spoon
i too have the 15* and 18* although i hardly ever use the 18. both are top quality and of a different level. i tend to agree with the others when they say it is not so forgiving. i probably would have hit the gfield more consistenly had i opted for that route but decided on the epons. for now i am quite happy with the stock machline 65g stiff shafts they came with. although i am planning on getting the quattros based on all the positve reviews. languidcrane
I have been playing the 15* epon 3 wood for a few months now. I must say it about the perfect 3 wood for my game. It has a nice deep face, traditional pear shape, and feels so solid on impact. The cosmetics are also pure class. I love the no frills aproach to epon clubs. They are really all about performance. Chris actually had epon find one for me that was almost 2* open (thank you). This setup is ideal for both form and function. It allows me to really release the club and still hit the ball straight, and even on occasion, a nice fade. It really has taken the left side out of play. It is shafted with a machline pro 80 x flex. I really like the feel of this shaft. Off the tee it is a monster. Off the deck I am hitting the ball on a very boring trajectory. I would actually like to raise my ball flight a bit off the deck. I may try a new shaft in the future, but at the same time I don't want to give up the perfect ball flight off the tee. Any suggestions? I am going to disagree a little with some of the previous posts. I think for the golfer this 3 wood is targeting, it is forgiving. Of course there are game improvement 3 woods that are almost the size of a driver that are more forgiving, but I wouldn't play one of them. True you need to be a pretty good ball striker to play this 3 wood, but I would also say this is the most forgiving 3 wood in the "player" category. I have played rc cv pro, titleist 906f, nike t60, adams 4060, etc. and this beats them all. Edited July 28, 2007 by languidcrane
Blader-X
Beautiful club T, and thanks for posting your impressions. The Epon 3 wood is a monster. Mine is solidly in the bag. I love the low trajectory I get from mine. Its perfect for use in my game and to me there is no better club. The G-Field GFT comes close in performance and if one is looking for a little more forgiveness, I do believe the GFT is the way to go due to the rails it employs in the sole. I really believe in those rails helping to get the ball up and out of most any lie. I've told this to a few people who have PM'd me about the two clubs. Both clubs produce powerful, piercing trajectories however, for me and my game, I want the ultimate in feel and no company comes closer to that than Epon does. Mix in customization of face angles and lies, superb craftsmanship and very, I mean very, clean lines, it just doesn't get any better. The 3 wood is club I don't change very often but I had experimented the last few years looking for basically what I have now. For a long time I had been a huge fan of Sonartec and even had the BBD in the bag for a few years. Loved that club. Then I went with to the TourEdge Exotics and then the GFT, but was never really satisfied. The Epon not only satisfies, but leaves me feeling very, very contented and at peace in my game. Its not for everyone and there are different clubs out there which would suit different golfers better, but Epon is a must try, even if you end up not liking it. ajaykkr
I now have two of the 13.5s with Quattro tech 75s (main bag and backup bag). but I also have the GFT 3 wood and the royal collection type HII. All three of these 3 woods are excellent. the epon gets the edge for me, but may not for you. point is there are atleast three 3 woods that are very good, perhaps more that I have not tried. so get one that works for you and do urself a favor. but a word of caution...all 3 are for the better ball striker..... I would agree with ajaykkr that Epon 3 wood is a good club but performance wise no better than a lot of JDM 3 woods on the market. The key is the right shaft for the player. Feel wise, it is no better or worse than TM V-Steel, Z Steel or CV Pro. My Fourteen 3 wood with the Fuji SIX is longer but not as tight as GD W70 on the Epon. I had a Zcom MW54 on the Epon 5W and felt very broady but now plays great with a GD PT6. The feel and performance is day and night. It is all in the shaft.
