I have the Epon 460 and the xdrive 460...... my natural shot is straight which turns into a fade when i go after it with the ocassional slice thrown in when i give it all I got....

average carry is 240-250 yards.... avg distance is 260-265 yards with the ocassional 290-300 yard drives...

if I am not focused on fade biased drivers... what other driver heads I should consider trying... I am a single digit handicapper with most rounds in high 70s (read 79) and low 80s on a course rated 74.5/148....

I am looking for square faces...... only criteria is that they need to be as good as the above two ( i love those)

A 148 slope? WOW What course is that?

comment_138376

The MP Craft 425 and Srixon ZR-600 were considered "Athlete" models in Japan for the lower handicapper and good ball striker. In most reviews that I've read, pro reviewers have pointed out the Craft as for good ball strikers. The ZR-600 has been a consistent favorite of all Srixon Japan pros. Almost every single one still carries it for it's hot face and high ball speeds. Came second in the 2007 D1 (distance) Driver Shootout out of like 48 models.

Thanks, very helpful....

1) Is the xdrive 460 considered more of an "Athlete" model than the MP Craft 425 or less?

2) Distance is important, but for me accuracy is equally important.. I want to be able to aim the driver at a line/point and land within a few yards of that line. Also, I am not so enthused by Srixon..

By the way Ajay, why are you looking? The X-Drive and Epon are close to the best you can get. I don't know if the Craft 425 will be as long as either but it is as much an Athlete's model as the X-Drive if not more. It has been called a workable players driver, I think it may only be average in distance.

No real reason.... I have had the epon 460 for all season and then i happened to get a great deal on the xdrive 460 and i like the driver as much as the epon... and I have not noticed any difference between the two in terms of the need for forgivenesss.....both are great drivers.simply the best I have ever played and its always a touch toss up on what to play on a given day.. Just trying to see if there is anything else in the same league.....

With all the customization options Epon has, and I mean face angle, lie, shafts, there is nothing better out there. If you're a good ball striker it doesn't matter what you use. In fact if you're a good ball striker you want a club built the way you want it. Epon beats every company out there hands down when it comes to that.

point taken, but as I mentioned i already own the epon 460 and the xdrive 460... looking for suggestions for other drivers in the same league....my clubs are built the way I want, square and standard lie and 45" length with Roddio shafts....

Since it looks like you already own two of the best out there, I can't see anything else on the market that would satisfy your curiosity.

I myself have yet to try the X Drive, but I'm happy with the Epon and will look to see if I can get fitted with a Roddio. I'm sure it would make a big difference vs. the stock TD shaft.

Haha do you really want to know??? :tsg_smiley_rambo:

Based solely on distance, the Nike Sasquatch (test was performed before the Sumo came out).

Third was the New ViQ.

All drivers were tested by different scratcg players with different swing speeds including ladies and then their best 10 drives for each driver and each player were counted and averaged.

it is tough... but fun... requires concenration on every shot or it can easily turn into double, triple, quad bogeys.

Oh so you did go for the MP Craft 425 after all. Awesome, let me know how it goes... definite feedback as I mentioned above is that it's for the good ball striker as witnessed by it's tour use for Mizuno staffers. ^^

I predict....

It MIGHT be as good as the TS460 and the EPON,

but not better....

I have to say I am very impressed with the MPcraft 425.... very solid... it was a tad longer than the epon and xdrive....

Also, like the rombax 7x07 shaft in it...but a couple of the balls ballooned. could be the tee height given the face is not as deep as the epon / xdrive...

more to follow after a few rounds...

The MPcraft 425cc is a very solid driver and could give any of the leading drivers a run for the money.

Its shafted with the rombax 7x07 stiff... I have played 4 rounds with the driver now (since I have been testing it, I hit driver on all but par 3s......

Distance..... it was slightly longer than my gamer (epon 460 with roddio 6WA stiff).... 5-10 yards on average... but with the epon i have ocassional drives that shoot greater than 300 yards.... i had none with the Mizuno....but on average i was 5-10 yards longer (265-275) yards vs 260-265 yards..... carry seems to be the same.. but tend to get more roll. However, i had a couple of drives that just ballooned and were no longer than 200-220 yards.... never happened with the epon...

Workability...... able to work the ball..... I normally can't draw the ball....sucess rate is 10-20%,,,,,i can hit a fade at will.... with the mizuno i could hit draws and if went after it they turned into strong draws/weak hooks.... But i attribute this to the shaft, I think.

control..... with my gamer (epon 460) I now aim at a particular part of the fairway and expect it to land there... lands where I want to 8/10 times... I had no such control with the mizuno..... I was in the correct half of the fairway,,,but accuracy was not up to the epon....

Low shots....... One of the days i played it was very windy..... I was pleasantly surprised that I could hit the ball without much loss of distance (with the nike sasquatch i could hit a low drive that never rose beyond 10-15 feet from the fairway but flew 230 yards or so and got lots of roll) I haven;t been able to hit those drives since... with the other drivers,.. xdrive 460, Epon 460 etc... the ball used to climb, wind used to takeover and i will lose distance.... with the mizuno, i could hit those drives.... no problem....

The xdrive 460, mizuno Mpcraft 425 and epon 460 are all fine drivers... I wish i had the roddio in the Mpcraft to make a better comparison... But the point is there are a number of drivers for the better ball striker that could make the bag anyday..... I could not say that in any year..... used to be that one driver will work for me and nothing else.... this year.. any of the three i could play with and be happy.....

p.s. i played bethpage black again yesterday where drive is the key to avoid a big score... i put the mpcraft in.... then pulled it out and replaced with my gamer..... for now the craft will have to do more to earn its way into the bag for those critical rounds....

When I got my EPON 460 w/roddio shaft it was up against the tourstage 460 and 430p.

I liked it but wasn't overly impressed. Slowly it kept edging upward. Now... It's the only Driver I'm playing with. I can do anything with it. I am calling my shots!!! The look on other peoples faces... Priceless.

I want to emphasize that when I initially tested it I just wasn't overly impressed. But after learning the driver it simply has no overall match.
