wmclarenf1
has anyone played both sets? Which feels better (softness, solid etc)? Which is less forgiving? Which has less offset? Which is better for a mid capper (10 capper)? Shaft for shaft, which hits higher? Not too concerned about shaping shots. Also, how different is the AF-301 to teh Techinica Pro 1? They look quite the same from the back. Thanks. Except for "which is better for a mid capper" can't answer that as it depends on your swing/iron play.....the studio MBs get my vote....more solid, better ball flight (which means higher in my case)... idrive
I currently own both sets. Assuming the Techinica Pro 1's are similar to the new 301's. IMO, I think the Pro 1's are a much better iron. To me, they feel more solid and are slightly more forgiving. I can't comment on ball flight as they have different shafts from each other. For a 10 cap the Epons are the better irons. For a scratch player, with the right shaft, the MB's may be the better irons. If working the ball is not what you're looking for the Epons are the way to go. Offset is very similar, will be home later today to compare.... I will edit this post tonight with comparisons in size and offset. I don't think there is a better looking iron than the Gauge MB's.

Thanks for the feedback. I will really appreciate your confirmation on the hosel offset as that is the only thing bugging me about the GD MBs. I'm hoping the Epons will have LESS hosel offset. If possible, can you take side by side pics of the 9I, 7I and the 5I and post? Thanks again for the feedback.

idrive
Long story short, I am unable to post comparitive pictures tonight. I will get them posted Monday. Comparing the two irons side by side, the J's do have a bit less offset. Not much, but it is noticable with the naked eye. The sole from heel to toe is much narrower also. The top line of the toe is slightly taller as well. Keep in mind I am comparing the MB's to the Technity's not the new AF301's. Here is a quote from Chris that appears in another thread. "The replacement for the Type J the AF-301 looks very similar to the J but when i measured dimensions with a digital caliper their was less space between the top line and the top grooves meaning its a hair more compact but nothing I could notice without the caliper. Also and I may be wrong the offset seems a tad less."

ajaykkr
Aj,Do the Studio MBs still get your vote now after 9 rounds with the AF 301s? For me yes, but its closer... Epon has better feel / forgiveness.... GD MB has a bit more workability. I am partial to more blade like irons, so that could be coloring my opinion too.
