Phillip Alexander
Guys, I'm just tinkering with the shaft length of my utilities. Driver is 44.5", 3 wood 42.5" and 4 iron 38.5". My thought is 40.5" for the ut3 and 39.5" for the ut4. I just wonder what shaft length others have in their utilities and if there is a reason for the particular shaft length. I see the utilities as the transition between the woods and the irons and I think these shaft lengths are around the money, however I may stand corrected. Blader-X
I think you're right about on there with those numbers Jack. I have the GFT 3 utility and its 41" and my TourStage which is still with the stock steel shaft is 39.5". Most utility shafts are only 42" uncut. I'm sure there's some variation among golfers but I'd say +/- 1 inch around your numbers would be good.
gocchin
Using graphite shafts with my utilities I play them around 0.5" longer than the club they are replacing. I also try to get close to the overall weight and swingweight of the club they are replacing to try and keep my set in balance. I used to play stock JDM utilities out of the box but they are excessively light. My XXIO hybrid is like 320g I changed the shaft to a Tour AD UT-55 and weight the head so that total clubweight got to 343g and swingweight closer to C9/D0. Spoon
this is a timely thread was wondering the same thing as i have purchased a pulled UT85s from a adams hybrid 18* i was going to put it on my #2 18* gft but it was shorter than the stock shaft but exactly the same length as my 20* gft #3 so i placed it there instead. was wondering what the ideal shaft lengths of an 18* is as i have been getting different measurements from diff manufacturers and if the corresponding lengths get shorter by .5" as i progress down to 20*, 22*.....24*? thanks
Duffer19
Using graphite shafts with my utilities I play them around 0.5" longer than the club they are replacing. I used to play stock JDM utilities out of the box but they are excessively light. My XXIO hybrid is like 320g I changed the shaft to a Tour AD UT-55 and weight the head so that total clubweight got to 343g and swingweight closer to C9/D0. That doesn't sound right with the XXIO T. I also have the U7 which is 40.5" long and the stock R is 57 g and I am guessing the SW is C9 which is 90% of JDM men clubs in R. Your Tour AD UT-55 would also be in the mid 50g range hence the total weight should be approximately the same as with stock. So where would the extra 20 some grams come from? Perhaps from the extra 0.5"? Edited October 11, 2007 by Duffer19
gocchin
The problem was that the xxio head was very light, coupled with a heavier grip and heavier shaft the swing weight went down to like B something! the xxio stock shaft is 53g versus 58g for the GD and the stock grip was like 40g versus the 48g No1 grip.
