CallawayIrons
I currently own the Callaway Big Bertha irons and CG14 wedges. Both OEM shafts feel a bit "boardy" to me and lack feeling. Also don't think I'm getting the proper shaft loading. My swing speed is 85 to 90 mph and improving. I am seriously looking at the 950s or SteelFiber 95;s for both irons and wedges. Not sure which way to go. Thank you!
gocchin
I am not familiar with the Aerotech's but Nippons are know for their feel. For your swing speed, you'd definitely benefit from lighter steel, I'd recommend even the 850gh in R flex, and perhaps 950's in the wedges. You'll get improved smooth feel, higher trajectory and most likely improved distance.

I swing about the same as him and the R flex is too soft for me in the Nippon. I think if you are a R in a 130 gram shaft, it is wise to "test drive" the S in a lightweight steel or graphite shaft. The results may surprise you with the increased swing speed requiring the S.
CallawayIrons
Thank you both for your replies. I think I'll go with the Nippons as the clubfitter said they are an excellent shaft. I'll ask him about flex and weight. :-)

I'm also in that swing range and I tested the 750GH wraptech and was using Stiff as the R was super soft.
K2_2
In addition to trying both the R and S flex in the shaft that you choose, you might try an 80-85 gram Aerotech (or other model) shaft in the mid and long irons, and use the 95 in your wedges. zodialover
I have 850 Nippons and the 80 gram Aerotechs in different sets of irons. My swing speed is not far from yours. Go with Nippons. Just be aware that they are soft feeling. I think the Aerotechs feel boardy. Much prefer Nippons.

CallawayIrons
My experience also. I agree 100% I went with the Nippon 8950s (these are 950s only available to club builders and are true to flex). I played 9 holes with them today. They get the ball up nicely and I like the lighter feel. My club builder felt the 850s would be too light, so now all my irons and wedges have the Nippon 8950s. Thanks also for the info on Aerotech. I had my doubts about the Nippons but trusted my club builder (though he could have made more money selling me the Aerotechs), and am glad I went with his advice. Just for fun I tried Project X...talk about boardy! But, he says many of his customers insist on the Project X's though he feels the Nippons would be a much better choice, which I had never heard of until he told me about them (he uses them in his own clubs).
