What is the logic for More offset in shorter irons?

Is there an error in your topic heading? You mean less offset for shorter irons or more offset for longer irons?

The listed numbers for the R7 Forged are Face Progression measurements not Offset. Face progression is the measurement from the leading edge of the iron to the CENTER of the hosel. More face progression = less offset and vice versa.

Nope. ed got it right. I;ve noticed this in the X-Blade CBs and my GD Studio MBs. I'd liekt o know the rationale as well.

Bat is right that the R7 spec is face progression and not offset. Ed is only referring to R7 forged and not X Blade CB. The spec for X Blade CB seems to suggest more offset (in group of three face progression) for longer irons than shorter ones.

Can you give a few JDM examples other than the R7?

This used to be a Japanese design concept in the 80's.

This in theory promotes better trajectory control in the short irons (offset helps deloft the ball at impact/hands ahead).

Lower flying/better trajectory short irons. It was the size that threw off a lot of people.

its to compensate for a swing flaw of some players with irons.... iron has to be hit with hands forward..... the extra offset allows that to happen....

That is exactly my point. The more offset in the longer irons is to help or compensate for hitting those longer irons with shorter irons require less 'help.' Ed's question is more offset for shorter iron design.

I was referring to the shorter irons..... a lot of players tend to hit the irons with hands at or behind the ball.. the extra offset in the shorter irons helps them to keep their hands forward and hit a descending blow... with the longer irons,,, its less of a problem from the hands not being forward perspective....

frankly, most people decide to buy their irons based on how they play the mid.short irons.. thats why some irons have that... its more of a JDM phenomenon....
