richie22
Do you guys use the same shaft weights for your driver and fairway woods? I currently use a 55grams shaft for my epon driver. I'm shopping around for a new fairway wood but am considering what weight to use for the 3 wood. I don't want a too heavy shaft because it might affect my swing speed. On the other hand, I don't want a shaft that's too light lest I lose control.

Phillip Alexander
Ditto spoon. About 10 grams heavier is the go.
Duffer19
Normally I would agree with you both but if one is to look at the JDM stock shafts for FW, you would notice most are in the mid 50 range with the heavier shafts as custom option. The flex you play your driver and your ss play a part on the weight of the FW. Most people in this forum prefer heavier shaft but them most of them are low handicap players. Epon's FW stock is mid 50s for SR and 60's for S. The weight of the head plays a major part in obtaining overall balance. I prefer D0 sw hence weight of shaft and length all must interplay to achieve balance.

R, the epon fairway woods i got were 65grams regular. thats what it came with. also 2 of my gfields bougt worlds apart came stcok with 67 gram shafts. i agree with you though that the head weight plays an important role in overall balance. i also beleive that a key understanding of your swing and working with an experienced clubfitter can contribute to a very tailor fit club that is uniquely yours. ive tried FW shafts that weighed the same as my driver shafts and dint like the feeling so much. the increase in weight certainly helped keep my swing in check. cant give a more detailed explanation but it works for me. My point being JDM FW stock are 90% in the mid 50 g weight range. It might not be to your liking or fit your swing speed but this is JDM spec. They are being designed that way for good balance and flex and not necessary with the Western market in mind.
Ginrin
Fairwaywoods are usually shorter by an inch or so,and the heavier shaft is close to the lighter driver shaft because it is shorter. If you used a lightweight shaft and cut it to fit a FW your swingweight will be really low or much lower than your driver.JMHO
