PRGR Hit Tour 3W

I received this the other day with the stock M-43 shaft. The fit and finish is as good as any club I have had.

Initial impressions are very very good. Head is on the small side as expected. Face is shallow and reminds me of the depth of the original Orlimar clubs or some of the recent Tourstage models. Shaft is a M-43 which TSG says is a SR flex.

Look

Club sits up very square. As said, the fit and finish is very good. Nice shape to the head. It is a small head, but I found it pleasant to stand over and never had any concern with its size.

Feel

The shaft kicks very very well and feels super to me. I hate boardy feeling shafts and this isnt that - very lively. I am pleasantly surprised with this shaft. I don't care for the stock grip and will likely change it. Remember this club has a 56.5 degree lie. I assume this is to promote a fade or avoid the left. It works perfect for me because I am short and this lie sets up for me as a normal lie would for a taller player. The sound is not Epon muted. It has a nice solid sound, but higher pitch than Epon. Feel is very soft. Feedback is great.

Performance

Deck - Easy, easy, easy to hit off the deck. As expected from the shallow face. Even though the CG is probably higher than the regular Hit model, this is still easy to get up.

Tee - Great also. I tried to vary the tee height and still strong throughout the range. Of course, you can't go too high.

Flight - A very nice flat medium boring trajectory. Fades and draws were available.

Accuracy - I think pretty good. The shaft seemed pretty consistent. Nothing surprising, no hooks or fades from nowhere. I need some more time to make judgment here.

I am probably not writing this as exciting as I feel, but I must say that this is probably the easiest club to hit in my bag right now. I found myself wanting to hit it more and more and found nothing disappointing about it. I was pleasantly surprised by this club as I have never owed a PRGR club before and haven't heard much here on TSG. Chris is playing one so I am wondering what he thinks.

No idea yet how this will perform off the tee. I bought it knowing this, but I seldom use a 3W off the tee. I wanted one that would be better off the deck and didn't have that with my Epon 3W.

This is one of the 3 woods that has been on my list. My main concern is that is is so shallow. That would be an advantage for shots off the deck, but how does it play off the tee?

Good feedback B, Chris was playing one last year and echoed the same sentiments, great shape, easy to hit and very playable.

As I've mentioned before, PRGR is pure quality and very highly regarded in Japan. The M3 Hit has been a best seller for a long time. The Tour version was great for those looking for a more compact and square faced playable FW while the standard M3 Hit may very well be the easiest FW to hit on the market now and provides confidence for lesser skilled players because of it's larger size.

Nice review Bogeydog! I just got the 3 and 7 wood and just returned from California where I was able to hit a lot of balls with these clubs. Your review is on point but I do like the stock grips!! I am also on the short size so the lie angle is perfect for me. I would add the sound at impact is much more muted than my Callaway Hot fairway woods. In my opinion, a much better sound, not as tinny as Callaway. I was concerned about this club being fade biased but I was able to work the ball left or right. Very happy with my choice.

What are your flight observations with the 7 wood? I am considering this instead of a hybrid. I haven't had much luck with hybrids. I need a good 210 yard club.

I hit a bucket with the 7 wood. I certainly was able to move the ball left or right. I was not consistant with flight as some were high and some were low but there was no ballooning whatsoever with it. Still a little rusty. Have the same stock shaft as yours. My normal yardage is about 200-210 and had no problem achieving it. Club reminded me of my old Callaway Steelhead plus which I used for many years. I never liked hybrids so I am sticking with this club until future notice!!
