bjp1
My 301's have been an interesting challenge to shaft properly. DGS200, Black Gold, Nippon, TT GS75 and Wishon Series 5 shafts have all been tried. The winner, PX HL 6.0. Unfortunately for me, I only attempted different shafts in the 5i and getting this shaft setup correctly was a challenge. See, the hosels have been reamed to accept .370 shafts on the most recent attempts. Golf Galaxy only had 1 PX HL 6.0 in satin finish left, which happened to be .370. The weight, balance and performance are perfect. I get a higher trajectory than my former Scratch AR-1/KB Tour combo and the dispersion is point and shoot. My biggest issue is that I can not find the original satin PX HL in 6.0 and .370 from a reputable source to finish the set. BTW - I let several friends hit this setup, who've also hit my other 301 combo's, and everyone agrees this shaft makes these irons standout. xchangmanx
Got my 301s w/1150s stiff I usually hit low trajectory knock downs and even when I go full swing I like to keep it low. For me the best shaft has been the 1150GH tour. I can get it really boring and at the same time work the shot. I played PX 6.0s in 695mbs. They are high launching shafts for me. Being a Hawaii player the trade winds usually kick above 20mph and very frequently too. I choose to hit the lower flight shots, and the 1150 shaft really shines into the wind. The 301 is a great head and I think you'll find it hard to go wrong w/shaft selection. I was even thinking about going AD 85 graphite, but I think I'll play the 1150s for 1 more season.
