dwani
Hi anyone, I currently use the Srix i-506, i really hate my 3-iron(21*) at the moment. I want to replace it with an easier to hit one. I kind of don't want to go hybrid and not sure about iron/ut. Was thinking of more game improvement 3-iron. I like Srixon, Epon and Fourteen. In terms of shaft I use steel in my iron, just reg DGs. If anyone could help that would be great. To the Tourspec proshoppers, could I just purchase the single 3-iron from your advertised sets? gocchin
Hi there, Problem is none of the brands you mentioned, Fourteen, Epon, Srixon really offer a "Game Improvement" iron.... they offer better irons than the i-506 but not GI (^_^). Is there a reason you don't want to try a hybrid or are not sure about a driving iron? What's your handicap?
ajaykkr
use a 7 wood, you will be surprised at what it does to your game. I play blades, but when i play courses where i will have a lot of 200-210 yards to hit the green, its the best to hit high soft cuts. Blader-X
You could go with the Epon AF-701. I have the older model Type-S I use from time to time when I don't want to go with 2 hyrbrids for whatever reason. I use the TourStage X-blade 2's in the 4-9 and the Type S in a 3 iron. Works really, really well. However, I would suggest a hybrid. Great clubs with much more versatility. I carry at least one, the X-UT by TourStage and will also sometimes replace the 3 iron with my #3 Utility from G-Field. This club is money from anywhere including fairway bunkers. Good luck with your search.
dwani
Hi Guys, Thanks for the suggestions. I do use a nakashima np-r to replace my 5 wood/2iron. It works well. I just like the look of irons better, so to find an iron that would be easier to hit would be nice. I am a 17 handicapper. Maybe i go with AF-901 or AF-701 in the 21*. Has anyone who owns a 21* AF-701 got any pics they can post. Esplly thickness of sole and topline? Thanks again Edited April 20, 2008 by dwani
gocchin
I played the i506, the AF-701 is simlar in size but far more forgiving, especially the leading edge which I found a bit too sharp on the i506.... Here's a 5 iron (don't have a 4), the 4 will be close and this will give you some idea.
dwani
Hi Gocchin, Thanks for the reply. and esplly the pics. I am guessing then the 901 will be even much more easier to hit than the 701. The pics on epon website show it to have much more weight in the sole? Do you think that tourspec could just fix me up with the 4iron 701 as a sinlge unit? (I hope it might force myself to change the whole iron set, then my bag will be almost all jdm) Is Nakashima JDM (on another note)? And on another note - i506, IMO they are a pretty good club, i used to have i201s and they are easier and better feeling than those. Kind Regards Dave

Epon AF-901 all the way. I have all the three lofts and will have them for ever! I can't imagine and have never had a wood that hits the greens like these. They also spin well enough to stop the ball. Seriously, in my game they are good for 2-3 stokes per round. It has a Japanese name and that is about it. I'll have to agree with others here and say if you want to get an easy to hit iron utility get the 901. The 701 is an easier to hit iron that the i506 but it is still an iron. Get something that is so easy to hit it will be your go to club in your bag. The do have more weight in the sole and the reason why is that they are a forged one piece iron with a hollow cavity. This makes it forgiving and easy to get the ball in the air from any lie and as other said, still targets the green and spins like an iron!
