Posted June 15, 200816 yr comment_150398 I have a MachLine 7080 R flex playing at 45.5" in my 9.5* Epon AF-101. I find it too flexible for my ss of 100mph. How much should I tip it so it will play like my M63 stiff Redboard?
June 20, 200816 yr comment_150555 Best way to match the two shafts is to go to a repair shop where they have a cpm machine that they can measure the cycles of each shaft. Put the redboard on the machine with the head attached and measure the cycles, probably will be in the 255 cpm range. Pull the AF head, trim the tip of the Machline 1/2 inch, put the head back on with tape (don't glue) and cycle it out on the machine and see if it gets close to the cycles of the redboard. If not, take the AF head off again, trim another 1/2", tape head back on and cycle again. Should get close after trimming an inch off. Since you have the AF at the length of 45.5 inches, I'm guessing that you will have to trim at least 1 1/2 inches off of the tip. Of course, this can get tricky, because once you trim off the tip, you will have to add some extension to the butt. Hey, your repairman if he is any good ought to be able to figure it out. Doc
June 22, 200816 yr Author comment_150610 Hi Doc, Thanks for your very detailed response. My clubfitter probably does know what to do, but I was just curious to find out for my own education. I use a 44.5" driver, so trimming 1" off the tip to get it to play stiff saves me having to trim 1" off the butt.
