Posted June 17, 200816 yr what exactly do I need to know besides the tip size of the irons? What is the size for the Miuras? I guess I need to know if they are tapered or straight? If I need my irons, say 1/2 over standard... what measurement would I be looking at for a 6 iron? Finally, when measuring a club length, does that shaft length include the tip in the hozzle, or just from butt to hozzle? Sorry for the n00b questions. Charlatan
June 17, 200816 yr Never be sorry for asking questions. :) Most of your quality irons like Miura are taper tip with .355 size. Standard six iron is usually 37.5 inches so 1/2 " more would be 38 inches. And the length of the club is measured from the heel of the club flat on the floor to the top of the grip. Doc
June 17, 200816 yr Would that be the same for graphite shafts? I note that most Miura heads including the mb5003 would have a different weights for use with graphite shafts. I think the weight is 6 to 7 g difference per head.
June 17, 200816 yr Author Okay, thanks. So if I find some pulled shafts, I need to find some in which the 6 iron is 38 inches? Thx Mike

I think the weight is 6 to 7 g difference per head. Irons heads are probably the same weight no matter if you use steel or graphite. To make up for the lack of weight in graphite shafts, they are installed 1/2 inch longer than steel. A 1/2 inch accounts for 4 swing weights I believe. But, if you are installing graphite shafts, be sure to look for shafts at least 85 grams or more. Doc Edited June 19, 200816 yr by The Doc

Tapered iron shafts are stepped exactly for each club. A tapered 6 iron shaft is installed in a 6 iron only (unless you are soft-stepping) and a 5 iron tapered shaft is installed in a five iron. If the shafts are new then you just butt trim them to the desired length, the 6 iron tapered shaft can be 1/2 longer due to only trimming the butt end, not the tip. AS for pulled tapered shafts, unless they were trimmed 1/2 inch longer when they were new, you will have to extend the 37.5 inch 6 iron shaft to 38 inches. That way the step pattern will be correct. Best thing to do is just buy a new set of tapered iron shafts and trim them correctly. Doc

One might have to use weight pin with graphite shafts to adjust to desired sw.
June 19, 200816 yr Heads are different weights(of course) as you go from the 3 iron to the pw, they get heavier. But, does the website say they make different weighted heads specifically for graphite shafts? That would mean that they would be making two different weighted sets for each model. If so, that is custom and probably expensive. Curious, Doc

I am moving forward with your recommendation :) Charlatan
