indharbor
Guys, I need help on my iron set that is being built. I need to cut them to final length and put the grips on for final touch. However, I am little confused on this part. When we say final length of an iron set, say 37.75' on 5 iron, it's the length including the grip. The confusion I have is on the fact that there will be little bit of extra length from butt end of the grip so if I cut the shaft to exact length, the final length will be slightly longer due to butt end of the grip, am I right on this? What would be the best method to hit the exact length before the grip is on so I can get the exact length after the grip is intact? Any help is appreciated! Thanks! gocchin
You're right that the butt will be longer with the grip. I always have the shafts cut to exact length ungripped. The truth is when you hold your club you are usually not right up to the end of the grip anyway. That little bit is still sticking out is like 1/8" I think? I never really thought that I don't usually grip up to the end of the grip anyway.
clevelaand
Yep, cut the shafts 1/8 of an inch shorter for the grip butt thickness. So, if you want your five iron to be exactly 38 inches, cut the shaft (after installation of course) to 37 7/8 inches and it will be perfecto!!!!
