opinions needed(JDM woods and shaft)

Hi,

I have two questions for you guys and appreciate your help in advance.

1. Anyone have experience with Diamana Kai'li shafts?

I am using Fubuki shafts and I like them very much so far. Not as boardy as white boards and better profile for my swing overall. Only downside is I have them with Callawy driver which I am not 100% on the feel side. Forgiveness and distance is top notch.

Anyhow, I went to a club fitter yesterday for possible Fubuki installation on another driver and he had highly recommended Diamana Kai'li over Fubuki. They seem to have lower torque(70 Stiff) than Fubuki's which may keep the spin rate down little more for my swing. Any experience with this shaft would really be appreciated before I pull the trigger on this bad boy.

2. I am looking for JDM driver and woods with MAXIMUM DISTANCE AND FORGIVNESS. I am looking for set of woods for my father in law and he has been struggling with distance loss and about to give up golf from frustration. He is a senior golfer so I would assume Honma would be on top of the list but I wanted to know what other brands would do just as well as Honmas. Once again, primary concern is DISTANCE first and forgiveness. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

To answer your first question Kai'li, I had a chance to play it for 3 games this past week and I am very impressed by it. Since I was a former White Board flower band player (on the same Epon 460 head), I can tell you that the I like the Kai'li just as much if not more than the White. It has great feel and a very nice kick to it but different than the White. It launches the ball somewhere between the Blue and White and gives out similar roll out. I had recommended the GD EV5 and the Kai'li for my friend to install in his Epon and he ended up with the Kai'li since it is more readily available. I did not want to recommend the ali'islei as he is a high single and think this would suit him better. The reason I did not get one myself is that my Machline Proto 7061 feels every bit as good and I love the stiffer tip not unlike the white but with a different bend point. BTW, is your Callaway a composite head? If it is, you should change it as well to the new Legacy (for better feel). :atsg_smilie_hiro:

To answer your 2nd question, how 'senior' is your father in law? I am a senior by some official designation (62). Honma Beres 6 and 7 series are great for seniors but I am not there yet. My older brothers compensate loss of distance with longer, softer and lighter shafts at 47 and 48". Mind you that to use such as length, you need very good tempo and they were single players before hence much easier to adopt to new swing. FYI, one uses a GD MD5 and the other ZCom BW 44. Besides the Beres line, PRGR mades great clubs for senior such as the premium red line.

Duffer,

Thanks for your input.

Based on your comments, I think Kai'li maybe a really good fit for me. I was looking for characteristics of White board(spin wise) but better feel.

I think Kai'li should work just fine for me. I can't wait to try them on new head.

I have Fubuki on FTiqs and yes I have heard great things about Legacy drivers but they are not readily available in US. So my alternative route was to go with high JDM shaft on a relatively cheap head..haha I will have to see how it goes.

My father in law is in mid 60s and he is high 80 to mid 90 player. I don't think he has access nor interested in custom fitting so I would need to recommend some brands that offer distance and forgivness.

Are there any other brands besides Beres and PRGR offer good equipments for senior profile?

Thanks again!

I think most JDM brands offer senior line but they are ususally more or very expensive. Some how they equate seniors with money. :atsg_smilie_hiro: To name a few, Mizuno, S Yard, Maruman and probably others all have senior lines. I am sure Gocchin can give you more on that although he is just a few years older than my son. :atsg_smilie_roll:

Duffer,

I'm curious about your statement above. What characteristics of the ali'islei do you feel not suitable for a high single player? I think I have a pretty good idea where the Red, White, and Blue Board stands in relation to each other but am interested in the characteristics of the ali'islei, kai'li, and fubuki. I was wondering if you (or anyone) can give me some idea of how the ali'islei, kai'li, and fubuki stands in relation to each other and in realation to the red, white, and blue board. Thanks

Bat,

I actually had a Epon 101 built with the ali'isle for a friend but did not have a chance to play it or talk with him about it yet. It is just on spec that I like the Kai'li better. It has lower torque and higher kick like the White. Somehow I have the impression that the ali'isle is a bit of a compromise yet the Kai'li is totally new. It is just a feeling when I recommend the Kai'li to my friend which I play with often. I have not play the Fubuki as it is not an Asian model I don't believe but out of the Red, Blue, White and Kai'li, I like the last two the best on a driver. FYI, I love the feel of the new Bassara Hawk 53 on my 7 wood but no chance to test it on a driver yet. I would love to test the new EV first.

ps: I would be in BKK next week for some R n R but no golf though.
