ukok
As both the R9 and R9 Max are available in Japan, has anyone hit both clubs and if so what is the difference between the two apart from head size and weight configuration. I have tried the UK spec R9 with standard shaft and was very impressed with the feel and balance and am looking to try the TP version with either Matrix Ozik Xcon or Fubuki shafts. I have heard the R9 max is slightly longer and forgiving but not as nice to hit (a bit tiny). Your comparisons, please.
gocchin
The R9 Max is bigger than than the R9 so I'm not sure how it could be a bit tiny? Do you mean a tiny bit not as nice to hit? (^_^) Not only are the head sizes, weight configurations different, but the loft and face angle configurations are more ie 3* each way for face and 1.5* each way for loft. Also all the shafts are different weight and spec including the stock Motore shaft and TPJ. I have hit both and feel is subjective really. They both felt pretty good, better than I had expected, with the regular R9 feeling a touch more solid which is normal for any smaller driver. The R9 Max was indeed more forgiving on off center hits. Sorry, spelling mistake, I meant tinny. Are the shafts interchangeable with each model or do they have their own independent sleeves. I was tempted to purchase both heads as the majority of the cost seems to be in the TP shafts but if you cannot interchange the shafts between both clubs there is little point. gocchin
It didn't feel too tinny to me. I was actually surprised that it was rather soft feeling. We only have R9 Max's here right now so I asked for TM Japan to send over a standard R9 so we can try swapping the shafts ourselves and doing a little experimentation. Interestingly here in Japan there are many FCT sleeves for the standar R9 floating around but I haven't seen even one R9 Max sleeve available. Gocchin, Isn't it the same sleeve for both the max and the standard R9? Can you find out. I was thinking of picking the two models to find which one will suit me better. But i'm leaning towards the R9 max. THX
