parshootn
This is a great site, lurking around for a few years now, some contributors have been real great source of help and information. Hope soem of you can help me out with my dillema here. I am about to get my once in a while fix and want to get a new iron set. its between the Tour Stage GR C1 and the Epon AF 502. Wondering if any-one knows which one is more friendly (forgiving). I read somewhere that the GR C1 has a thinner sole than the previous TS GR (2008 model with the hollowed-out cavity). was going to go for the TS GR C1 until I read about their sole being thinner and just want to have some input about this. Have used the X-Blade CB 2006 model and found the sole was very accommodating but was immediately attracted to the Mizuno MP 60 at the time it came-out. Was using the Mizuno's and loved it but started to mess-around with the lie angles and things got out of control where I did'nt know if it was my swing or the changes in the lie-angle that may have changed the loft and other characteristics of the club-face, in short my game sort of dis-integrated..he..hehe. So as many of you have also, no doubt been thru it also, best way to go under this situation, is to get a new set all together. I have been using the KZG Evelutions lately, while it is good and reliable I find that it has quite a small sweet-spot and distance is not consistent, except for the PW which has great feel and control. So this is my current predicament. Epons or TS X Blade GR-C1??? both using NS Prro 950's. also the YAmaha Inpres 2010 D steel would have been my choice but the pricing I got was not good. Hope some-one can give me input? Thanks.
gocchin
Hi there, if you played the 2006 X-Blade and had no problems with the sole or forgiveness, you should have no issues with the C-1 which is a bigger head and has a wider sole than the 2006. The AF-502 is also a very good iron. In this range there are so many great irons to choose from. I would actually place the Yamaha V Forged and ONOFF Plus Forged ahead of the the Epon and GR C-1. Both have superb feel and control and are relatively forgiving. Slightly harder to use but also great on performance and control is the X-blade 703. Hi Gocchin, thanks for your input. you read my mind about the Yamaha V Forged. The looks alone is just about worth it to carry around. Unfortunately what the mind wants to or think it an do the body may not be willing. My episode with the X-Blade 2006, was a different lifetime away. Don't think I can I am in the same physical condition now - don't think I was the either That's why i'm thinking to go for easier more friendly clubs now besides I have a bit of a sprained wrist which I cant shake-off for the greater part of this year. Might give the OnOff Plus a try and if it's beyond my league then its the GR-C1 (any way its a good deal on the prices on the GR-C1 now, with the new GR coming). Thanks a bunch for your time in replying Gocchin. BTW looking forward to your next write-up on these clubs challange. I'm getting some vibes about your preference by the way you recommend the V Forge, OnOff Plus and the TS 703???
