ukok
Picked up my Ryoma D-1 V spec 9.5 with Crazy Black 46 7.2 shaft last monday and to be honest was a bit hesitant to use it as I did not want to be disappointed with all the glowing reviews. Anyway, went to the driving range this afternoon, first shot, I hit a duck hook (which is my stock bad hit) second shot slightly better, this went on for several hits. After about 20 balls, I started to smile, this club needs to be dialed in and when you have worked out how to hit it the results are there to be seen, longer and more forgiving than any driver I have used. The bad shots are still there, I can still duck hook until the cows come home and I can still slice slice the ball but not as much. What was also unexpected was the feel of the club which is excellent and it is almost reminiscent of the Epon AF-101 in softness. The 7.2 shaft fits me like a glove and almost feels a bit softer than a stiff shaft should, I thought this would be the opposite with Crazy. In all, I am very excited about playing tomorrow and hitting a real ball on a golf course.
EPONfreak
Any distance gains over your prior set up?
Eca
I have tbh & say if you have a good swing, low-mid capper & test a driver that is correct face bias ie neutral for me, correct flex & shaft weight, I will expect a quick dial. ukok
Did you play a round this weekend? How'd the driver perform? I have now played two rounds and several driving range sessions. The weather in the UK for the last few weeks has been up in the mid 20's, so the fairways are fast with lots of run. Having said that I have hit some of my longest drives this year and a couple of drives ventured into areas of the fairways (and rough) not visited before. On average, I would estimate an overall gain of 5-10 yards but when hit flush this can increase to 15+ yards. The feel of the club is up there with the best (Epon AF-101), it really is very nice to hit, smooth and soft with lots of spring, you know when you have hit it on the mark as there is almost no reaction apart from the ball soaring down the fairway. Forgiveness, well I can still duck hook and did so on a couple of holes, no real bad slices. I usually draw/hook the ball and noticed the ball flight was a lot straighter than usual. The shaft is excellent and combined with the head makes this an exceptional driver. Yes, you can still hit dud shots with it and I did but overall this is the one for me. Is all the hype justified, I think it might be.
