Royal Collection TRC review and question

Recommended Posts

Got the 20* TRC with the Nippon Steel shaft. Great utility easy to hit high or lower. Draw or fade is easy too. Great heavy feel.

Does it have a counter weight in the shaft? Kind of feels like it does and maybe looks it too. Anyone know for sure. What does the weight accomplish?

Thx!

Steve, it's shafted with an nspro 100 shaft. I don't know what kind ofnshaft that is as its not on nippons website.

Imhave the 17 and 20 shafted with stock gd ut 75s . So far so good I may reshaft the 20 though with an nspro

950ht just like in my 3 and 4 irons.

maybe the counterweight is suppose to counter the heavy weight of the head? That doesn't make sense though

Sangha point of RC was to make the head heavy to get out of the thick stuff easily.

Thanks Spoon. I have NS Pro 1050 GH in my VG3's so I went with the NSPRO 100 Hybrid shaft in the RC. I really like it. It is a heavy head but feels great. It does look like there is a counter weight plug in the butt end of the club. Maybe I should put these in all my clubs! I haven't hit a poor shot with this hybrid since I tore the plastic off the head. (10-12 shots at least)

Come to think of it, I see the point now. The 17 was indeed heavy even w the graphite. Too heavy intact that I reshafted

It with a diff shaft. The 2o is better buti still have the 950ht shaft as backup. Updates soon. Glad the 20 is workin out for you

I'm not sure if it has a counter weight with steel shafts, but if it does it would make sense as it would be to keep the swing weight down.

As you guys noticed it already is a heavy feeling club thanks to its higher weight heads. The heavier shaft would bump up swingweight by another 3 points which would be countered by the counter weight.

On another note... the TRC Utility has been chosen as Golf Club of the Year for Utilities in Japan.

even tho RC is a very small company i would still be surprised if they actually messed with weight plugs. it could be shaft design itself where weight is moved up the shaft, there are shaft designs like that. it might look that way because RC puts those pos iomics x or whatever they called on them and they have that distinct cap like end on them. the counterweight is supposed to give you more speed and control or at least thats the idea and while the physics of it does indeed make sense practically ymmv because it seems that some people clearly benefit, some see no practical difference and some cant get right feel for them. its further complicated by the fact that there is no exact fitting science to it developed as of yet and experimenting with it on your own can get pretty time consuming, eg head weight / shaft weight / counter weight combinations, unless you got access to a tour van or one working for you exclusively or got lucky. if you like the club you might wanna take it a clubfitter to get measured and then you can have that as your reference as in what works great for you personally.

I don't want to mess with it--so intact it shall stay! It does have a great feeling Iomic grip. When I look through the hole in the cap it does look like there is some sort of weight there. I could be wrong. Anyway great club does what I want. 200-215 draw or fade high or low runner.

Best hybrid I have hit and I have been through the gamut. Adams (probably 5 diff models including A12), TM, Tourstage, Mizuno, Fourteen. This has been the best.

You know, after a few rounds, I have gotten used to the heavy head. It doesn't impose any extra attention anymore; in fact, it's now gotten quite easy to grip-it and rip-it.

T, not surprising, it is really good club. One day, I'm going to be like YE Yang, drop the 4 & 5 irons and carry the 23 and 26 TRC! ;)
