DaleUK
Ok as per my other thread.... What is the length of a standard Driver Shaft?? When talking about club length, is it the uncut shaft length or the total length including the head,ie: from base of club to top of Grip? Only I've fitted a new Aldila shaft and it seems to be miles longer than my Quadra FX ....didn't want to tip new shaft as I'm not wanting to make it any stiffer!!.. Aldila quote 46" long..... Any help is appreciated! D

Any help is appreciated! D 45" total length used to be standard with (depending on the head) a 43 1/2 raw length shaft. If you've installed your shaft un-cut then you've built something approaching long drive competitor length although Cobra are going to be releasing a 48" "gamer" driver soon. I would suggest you are going to be looking at butt trimming your shaft.

gocchin
There is no such thing as a standard length for a driver, they come 44.5, 44.75, 45, 46, 47" it all depends. Club length is always the finished length and even there many manufacturers measure differently. You should build your driver to what you are comfortable with length wise or what it was originally intended for to match the proper swing weight. DaleUK
Think I'm going to cut 2" off the length.... Edited September 22, 2011 by DaleUK
potuna
I used to play lighter shaft at 46". I now play my drivers at 44.75" and heavier shafts and they work better for me.
wmclarenf1
Think I'm going to cut 2" off the length.... Suggestion... put the new shaft into your pulled head first and then mark off at the butt your intended finished playing length. That way you are not caught short and avoid the hassle of shaft extention. Finished length has many have answered here used to be 45 standard. It;s maybe 45.5 to 46.5 for JDM nowadays. I'm old school and play at 44.75. No right no wrong, depends on what suits your swing. Edited September 29, 2011 by wmclarenf1
Shambles
I agree there is no right or wrong length as a standard. There is only what's right for you. Look for a length and feel that's right for you. It's not sop much that you can swing and control it, but more a matter of you being able to swing it hard with a full follow through COMFORTABLY. An inch or so matters a lot less than being able to comfortably swing through the ball to a full follow through. It's possible that you only need some practice, or it's possible you only need a lot of practice. Try a lot of practice choking down an inch or so to find your most immediate comfort length and try seeing your consistent distance that way. See if you can improve it with some work, and subsequently, try the full length the same way. It's possible that the shorter club will send you ball higher with less roll and you might beed to address the ball a bit farther back. Changes in shaft length changes a bit more than might be obvious and it does not equate to greater accuracy regardless of what Frank Thomas writes. Experiment first. This will cost you a bit of time and effort but at the worst, you'll probably improve your understanding of what works for you. I personally do not like cutting until I am fully convinced I have found my personal comfort. The final decision belongs to you alone. Eca
My thoughts is that I hit my 3w off the tee with pretty good distance at 43" and I see quite a lot of players hit their 3w longer than their driver maybe b/c they get solid contact at that length so i don't see why I would need to go beyond 2" longer in a driver. I hit a 44.5 and a 45.5 and my average distance and fwy hits is much better with the shorter driver. My current is at 45.25 as builder wanted to get the swingweight right, so i do aka A Kim and grip down :)
