Messed up impact rate

I tried the PRGE RED to measure up my impact efficiency. You know what, I got a 94% on Ryoma 8.5 with 6.9 crazy LY -1. However, when I try spoon, i am doing 97-98%. That is really funny, cause you should get a high rate on driver... someone tells me what is really wrong? I swing 1 wood at 47, and 3 wood at 43.

I would guess that you're hitting the center of the clubface of the Egg more efficiently than your driver resulting in better smash factor. The hot face of the spoon may be a contributing factor as well.

Jerry,

Marc is exactly right. It simply means your efficiency is higher with the egg which is not surprising. It also means you could hit your Ryoma even better and longer if you got the efficiency up.

Swing speed is only part of the efficiency equation so for example you could swing 40m/s with one club and have 98% impact and 48m/s with another club and do 92%. In the end its just a ratio measuring your ball speed relative to that specific swing's speed.

This goes to show how useful the PRGR REP is and also how hot the egg is.

Its no wonder many customers have always said the egg comes close to their driver in distance.

Its funny you asked because I am writing a blog post now about impact efficiency with different club lengths (driver club lengths in this case).

So far I have found it a very good tool and this is the same feedback I've gotten from several who have picked up a REP.

i did do a lot of center hits. but still the ratio is not going up to somewhere like 98. I am working on it

Smash factor is really a measure of "centerness" of the impact. Sometimes decreasing swing speed will increase smash factor.

Could be the hot face of the spoon.

Could be the better tempo of slower ss.

Sometimes i think it should be clubhead speed instead of swing speed in the equation but thats another issue.

A ball mark on the center of the face doesn't necessarily mean you will get perfect impact. Your face also needs to be perfectly square up.

For example a player can cut across the ball from outside in and hit the center of the face by that glancing blow will create much lower smash factor even if the center was hit.

Its all about square impact right in the center.

98% means probably over 1.47 smash factor which is getting up to top amateur and pro levels (1.47 consistently) with the driver.

If you can do that consistently that will be pretty good. (^_^)

For those using the REP you should also keep in mind that the balls you use can even affect the efficiency rate as some balls produce higher balls speeds than others.

I ms have been living in north korea. This REP gadget looks very useful - does it work well with range balls ( floaters in particular ) and do you guys use it on the course ? Are they various models ?

I am thinking of getting a range finder.....with that, the REP & my iphone Golfshot........they might soon call me mr gadget
