Kenmochi

As per the Topic Description, does anyone have informed opinions on the overall quality of Kenmochi's forgings?

I did a quick seach of the forum, and there appears to be a bit of back-and-forth about quality and "spinniness". I'm particularly interested in finding out where they stack in terms of softness and attention to spec.

Thanks for any help.

no doubt they are soft, the wedges i received were good, no different imho to other smaller

scaled mom and pop boutique wedges. now as for attention to detail and quality Gocchin and TSg'er

can better answer that. i do remember that chris was going to spill the beans on the mochis but dont think

he ended up doing so:)

Sharp grooves no doubt but they don't seem to be as popular as many of the other brands most likely due to forging quality and quality control in general which is not up to par with many of the top brands.

I have a set and rate them very highly. Have 52/56 and 60 shafted with KBS Hi rev wedge shafts.

Performance wise and feel I think they are as good as any wedges I have got.

Great in all conditions

Obviously the more technical side of things is not as good as other brands but I would certainly consider getting them again

These are currently my gamers. In 50 and 56 deg. Spin is crazy and eats up my ball. Build quality is typical Japan...premium quality.

So you are selling a less than well made product here on TSG? With subpar QC and forging standards? Or how should your comment be seen?

@ Vegaman. Aaargh! Stop! Next we'll be on about Miura's spin-welded hosels, or who does or doesn't own their own foundry. Just let people comment on the Kenmochis, please. Don't hijack the thread! It's an interesting question (perhaps), but start a new thread. I'm sure there will be a lively discussion.

@gocchin. That's how I thought you meant it. Everyone's got a different set of criteria. Thanks for heading this one off.

I wouldn't say that Christian but the truth is there are finish quality differences between every brand. Some brands simply look more polished and more expensive though that isn't always reflective of their performance. The fact is not all brands are created equal.

Kenmochi wedges do look nice and spin very well, I don't doubt that at all. Ara asked for an opinion on the quality of forgings so I gave it. I did not say it is subpar (what is the definition of par in this case) however below some of the other top brands. For many that may be very well acceptable but for others who want the best of the best maybe not.

At TSG we try and offer the widest variety of products and people originally asked for Kenmochi so we have it. If it was really "sub par" or below acceptable quality level we would not carry it.

haha yes we do not need to get into the spin welded hosel discussion yet again. (^_^)

Performance wise I have no issues with the Kenmochi, I actually like the way they look too.

My son misses out on a bunch of clubs because he is a lefty. No hand me downs and very few lefty clubs available.

I did get him a 60* kenmochi wedge head that we shafted with an NSPro 1150 wedge shaft.

Raw head, you can plainly see the grinding, etc.

He was playing a Vokey and absolutely loves this wedge. The way he hits it shows too. It is his "go to" wedge

from a 100 yards in. Now he wants the 52 and 56*.

My initial thoughts are, for the money you can't go wrong.
