Vegaman
I went to the Geotech website while just surfing around the net, and checked out some of their driver heads. First on the list came various Geotech heads which of course is expected, but further down they listed and sold Crazy, Masda, and even Snake Eyes? isn't this a bit weird? Are they affiliated with these companies? It's like going to TMs website and watch Callaway clubs otherwise. Strange.
gocchin
Not weird at all. They are a components company and they carry any components they think are worthy sellers, even if it is not their own. Just like the carry every single shaft, every single grip, tools and accessories as well that have nothing to do with the Geotech brand. These are all items that are in demand by their customer base. Yeah, ok..But shafts etc etc they do not make themselves, but they DO make heads, irons, drivers and all. I can find various shafts on the upgrade page of Titleist, TM etc too. And grips.. If I go to other component brands website (say, infiniti, Krank, SMT, Kenmochi, Kamui, Crazy, Jbeam, Yururi etc) I won't find other brands for sale, so it's not like it's standard "component brand business practise" and so I find it a bit unusual. Even weird. Ant other Component Brands do it this way? I dont know a single one but maybe you do.
ant
sure you do. GolfSmith sells SnakeEyes which is owned by GolfSmith. they sell everything else as well. supermarkets sell their own consumer brands and other businesses do the same even in corporate/enterprise markets like IBM for instance. it makes sense if you think about it. if for instance, like Tario tells you, GeoTech is known as the place for components, its in their best interest to be a one stop shop for components on the market because if potential customer does not want to buy GeoTech own component for specific order they gonna loose a customer instead of gaining one. its that simple really. Yes, I understand it makes sense. And yes Golfsmith I of course know about, but they started out selling components from lots of brands plus selling other OEM stuff too and THEN they bought Snake Eyes. Didn't they buy McGregor too? But Golfsmith does not have their own brand named Golf Smith that is a well known brand in itself. Golfsmith is a retailer rather than a brand, so there is a difference. I was just not expecting to see Crazy an Kyoei when I looked up Geotech, was expecting a page full of Geotech stuff only. Not Geotech promoting other brands stuff. But I guess you live and learn, this is their rather unique business model, and if it works who am I to argue?
ant
yeah MacGregor is another example. the difference in branding is just a technicality dictated by target market and resources available plus they are called GeoTech Golf Components after all so for all we know they could have started as components seller then started making or branding their own products as well. Plus say Crazy products they sell are not in the same segment as their own so its not like they gonna cannibalize their own product by doing that. I know what you mean tho and it is kinda confusing because we are looking at it from the outside in and we know GeoTech simply as brand. I was asking same kinda questions on this forum before about GeoTech and Crazy but then it made sense to me.
