was asked today, what is meant by a Club head been described as "aimed towards a Mid to low Handicapper", just what Handicap is this trying to cover, 14-5 type player??

Just seems as tho this is trying to cover all bases?

I disagree with u there....The 5-14 handicapper is a nice niche. It seems to fit into those golfers who have been playing for awhile but are either too busy or not skilled enough to make the transition to scratch....Maybe the range can be narrowed from 5-11.....Most of my friends who have picked up this hobby later in life ( >28) will fall into this handicap pool ! Its a Low/Mid capper area, usually the ones most interested in the newest technology and attempt to squeeze every last inch out of their drives !

So then , what Handicap does it relate to when a Iron head is quoted as" aimed at the Mid to low handicapper"??

Am I right in say it's 11-5??

Putting handicap numbers 5-11/15 is indicative of the ball striking but not necessarily correct. I have 2 contrasting buddies one hcp 31 the other 14 that may illustrate this.

14 hcp - straight and long driver best 3 wood off the deck among golfers i know, horrible iron player, hits thin, fat and basically his iron full shots are 90% variation of a miss. But he is good around the green and very decent putter. Cant hit my blades top save his life.

The 31 hcper on the other hand is horrible off the tee with woods. Terrible course management and tries to hit miracle recoveries and hits trees 20x a round. Bad around the greens but also a decent putter. His iron play? Crisp and solid and i envy how he compresses the ball. Hits blades no problem. (Jonathan, you know who i am talking about Bruce and Craig)

I'm sure you have a gauge of you own ball striking.. trust it :)

I think irons aimed at low handicappers would be 4 and under and high handicappers would be 22 and over........the midcapper will be about a 15......so a low-midcapper iron would be 5-15 i guess......of course it depends on the player, there are always exceptions, there may be the guy who crushes drives 325 and hits 90% of fairways in regulation and can smoke his irons perfectly but seems to 5 putt every green and has a handicap of 35. There are really no absolutes i guess but just a generalization. I think epon covers the market quite well, they have blades and 302s for low handicappers and midcappers can enjoy these as well and then they have 502s and 701s to cover midcappers and high handicappers.....Of course this is a generalization as well because there are certainly many low low handicappers that play GI irons, and some play these on tour, and there are those high handicappers of 40+ who prefer miura baby blades and have them custom grind and xxflex shafts.....
